Re: Newbie in Trouble

Try cut depth of .01 with 8% line spacing. I would stay away from plywood, use something with a tight grain like hard maple. Pine tends to create a lot of fuzzies

Mach 4

My old computer crashed, a friend gave me a new computer, a 64-bit machine...so I bought an ethernet smooth stepper (which improved my machine alot) and I'm considering changing over to Mach 4. Does anyone have any experience using Mach 4 or have any recommendations?

Thanks,
Stuart

Looking for router adivce

Looking to upgrade my router and I am considering a Joes 2006. I currently have a home made Solsylva 24" x 24". A Joes 2006 would give me an extra 24" and I could use the motors and electronics I already have. I would love the about a Joes hybrid but the funds required would put me way over budget. ...

Re: Sanding Drum

At second viewing it appears to be a rotary cutter not a drum sander.. Still and interesting idea.

Re: Sanding Drum

The episode was about bowling balls and boxes, animatronics and...honestly can't remember what else. They were using the cnc (with a drum sander) to shape the exterior of the box, it was pretty interesting. The boxes were basswood with biscuit joints and then shaped with cnc, and then veneers were a...

Sanding Drum

I was watching "How its Made" and they were using a sanding drum in a CNC machine to profile the outside of a box made from Basswood. Has anyone tried using a sanding drum in their machine? Seems like an interesting way to profile a face.

Re: creating a library

You could put each part onto a separate layer and then copy each part from its layer to a new layer (the one you want to nest)

Can I control pass depth of a Vcarve toolpath

Is there a way to set the pass depth for a Vcarve toolpath? Would editing the tool's path depth control the depth/ number of passes. I am cutting into a hard material that my router has had trouble with in the past.

Thanks,
Stuart

Re: Tapered "Z" Depth Cut

Could you create like a dashed line(dashes very close together) and cut each segment a bit deeper...using a ball nose bit?

Re: Jerky lines

We had the same issue after importing Illustrator files. Turns out we were getting exports as DXF from Illustrator which caused the problem. We switched to importing AI files and the problem disappeared.

You could do it with a spiral as a fluting tool path.
