Re: How To: Continuous Rotation & Indexing

Could it be a PP issue? For flat work I use a Onefinity X50 but for 4 axis I use a Shark HD510 Rotary. Rounding seems to work if I model with 2D and simply cut to a specified depth. When trying to use the rounding Gadget (which seems simple enough to setup) all I get is air cuts between the stock ed...

Re: How To: Continuous Rotation & Indexing

I Z-zero first on the surface of the tail stock, move the spindle to the left of the tail stock then go to zero. Then I move the bit tip to -0.522 and Z-zero. 0.522 is the distance from the tail stock surface to the center point.

Re: How To: Continuous Rotation & Indexing

I have been having difficulty with the Rounding toolpath gadget so I tried the Continuous Rotation & Indexing method referenced here. I wanted to cut a piece of test stock 1.4 inch square with a point to point diameter of 1.98 inches to a final diameter of 1.0 inch. Thus I calculated the cut depth w...

Ramp using 3D tools

I am crafting a native american style flute using Aspire. I have two issues: 1) See attachments. I need to carve two ramps which I currently do by coping 1 inch vectors to a width of 0.375 and using the Fluting toolpath to ramp over the vector length to a depth of 0.142. I would like to carve those ...

Post Processor to wrap X with Y orientation

Shark 510, VCarve Pro
Trying to carve a dowel oriented on the Y axis to gain more length. To wrap around X, not sure which available post processors to use. Suggestions?

Re: Downward 45 deg ramp

My contribution. Added relief pockets (much like z-level roughing for 3D). This looks suspiciously like the throat of a wooden plane. For those I like the "cut the throat area as two angled pieces and glue the sides on method": https://www.canadianwoodworking.com/plans-projects/krenov-style-hand-pl...

Example of a ramp using the fluting toolpath. Remember that the fluting toolpath vector directs the center of the bit, so the cut will extend beyond the vector drawn by the radius of the end mill. A flat end end mill makes the smoothest surface.

Like this? It uses the moulding toolpath and will cut into the spoilboard so provisions are needed.
Yes, exactly. Thank you for the CRV

Rectangular shaft with a pocket toolpath and the ramp with a fluting toolpath would be one way to do it. You'll need some long bits to do it though. Does the Shark have enough Z travel to do it as well
I think so, will set it up and give it a try

Downward 45 deg ramp

Wood 2 X 24 inches (long end and grain in the X direction) Trying to route a down ramp .375 inches wide in the X direction. The ramp should angle downward at 45 degrees and terminate with a rectangular shaft penetrating through the wood. Sorry for the description but see the attachment to help expla...
