Re: Grbl in trial version
I would love to see the software interface with the actual machine someday. Until then, I'll be using Candle - or just dumping gcode directly to the machine's interface. VCarve comes with a program called vTransfer which I believe does what you want. I might be wrong though as I used a more "tradit...

60 to 70% through the roughing toolpath? Previews correctly in VCarve? Any messages on your controller software? Is the gcode file complete?

Re: Saving Toolpaths
Yes you can. I do it all the time but it depends on which post processor you're using. It must support some form of tool change be it manually prompted or fully automatic.

Re: V12.004 - drag and drop DXF doesn't work
I found with all versions that drag and drop can sometimes not work but closing and restarting VCarve fixes it. I'm sure it's a Windows issue rather than Vectric as I've had it with other programs as well.
Dragging and dropping DXF (and other files) is working fine for me in 12 as well.

Re: phantom hole punch
Hard to say 100% without seeing the actual file but it's most likely a very small vector. Zoom in on that area and/or go into node edit mode to make it a bit clearer. Assuming you're using a drill toolpath to make the holes. That works off the centre of the vector rather than the shape so a tiny str...

Re: v12 toolpath templates very slow.
Probably best to email support@vectric.com as it sounds like one of those issues that is particular to the combination of toolpaths etc rather than just being a general issue with toolpath templates.

I'm not seeing that behaviour. I timed one of my usual 11 sheet jobs and it took pretty much the same time in both.

Re: Working with converted DNW file
In that case there are no vectors as it's a component so you need the 3D roughing and finishing toolpaths rather than any of the vector based toolpaths.
Whether that is the most efficient/sensible way to cut it is hard to say without seeing it.

Re: Plug corners are not sharp
A 1mm (0.04") tip is pretty tiny :) Isn't the tool supposed to pull out of the wood in Z to get the detail required? Yes but you're using a start depth. It would be a sharp point if you didn't have the start depth but as far as the software is concerned there is no material above where you're cutti...

You won't get a sharp corner with a ball nose bit of that size I wouldn't have thought.

Re: Working with converted DNW file
What did you convert the file to? If you converted it to a 3D format like STL then it will be a 3D component after importing and you will need to use a 3D Roughing and Finishing toolpath on it. Sounds like a pretty simple shape (could be wrong without seeing a picture though) so I would just create ...

Re: Is there a trick to getting a bowl bit finish pass?
It's because you're using a start depth combined with a cut depth that is less than the radius of the bit. That means that the effective width of the tool is far less than the actual width (around 0.5" vs 0.75") so it cuts "over" the line. The software assumes there is no material above the start de...

Re: Version 12 Tool/Feature Name Changes (Be-Fuddling)
You can change both of those if you want but in the case of the 3D you will lose some of the new functionality. In both cases you need to go to Options on the Edit menu. To restore the old 3D mouse behaviour set "View controls mode" under "3D View Settings" to "Legacy" making sure to read the notes ...
