Re: Chamfer toolpath (what am I missing?)

Don't know about that one. The original chamfer gadget has the same error when running in the latest versions as well so it's nothing to do with the updates that Jeff and I did. It works fine on single lines not closed vectors. I'll have to look into it.

Sorry, forgot to change a line. Try this one.

Re: Chamfer toolpath (what am I missing?)

Sweet! This is awesome thank you! I'm excited to take a look at it right now! Out of curiosity though - is there a section I can go into to learn how create gadgets for Vectric software? Or are they only written by vectric? They can be written by anyone who understands the LUA programming language....

Re: Chamfer toolpath (what am I missing?)

You can still use the gadget if you prefer. It was modified to allow inside/outside cuts a while ago.

Here's a version that I've updated to work with V10 onwards as the original author hasn't been on the forum for a long time.

Re: Chamfer toolpath (what am I missing?)

From what I can see the chamfer tool is creating a "safer" toolpath than the one the gadget creates. With the built in chamfer toolpath it is clearing each level so the bit never has more material to cut than the pass depth specifies. With the gadget it just "staircases" down until the depth is reac...

Re: Applying toolpaths to all sheets without saving as template?

Adrian, where do I need to go to perform the above? I can't find: "What do you have "Select sheet when edit toolpath" set to in Options?" I use Aspire 11 and this is my first attempt to use the sheets option. I am making over sized chess pieces on a rotary axis and can't figure how to get the toolp...

Re: Can dimensions be printed on save preview image

Only way you could add dimensions to the 3D preview is by creating a toolpath that cuts the dimensions into the virtual board.

Re: Excessive Carving in Finish Pass

Why are you cutting that as 3D job? Looks all 2D to me.

If you really want to do it as a 3D job then you can use vectors to limit the machining area.

The tool database will do the chip load calculations for you if you know the chipload range from the manufacturers tables.

Re: Creating a component that the modeling tool will accept

All I can think is that you're either not pressing the Join button when using the join tool as it won't actually join the vectors until you do so or you're not selecting the vector when activating the Create Shape tool. Those are the only two ways I can replicate what you're seeing from your descrip...

Here is the error message I'm getting when trying to open the file.
You'll need to send that file to support as Mark says and they can tell you what the issue is. That particular error is nothing that normal users like me and Martin can help you with.

Re: Why does it squeal a bit?

The rule of thumb with spiral bits is if they are squealing they are hungry for fresh material. You need to speed the feed rate up, increase the pass depth or slow the RPM's down. The changes you've made are in the wrong direction to stop the squealing. Depending on the job it's often hard to get it...

If you can't open the CRV file you should be getting a message telling you why not or at least giving you an error number.

Re: French Cleat - How to efficiently cut?

Depends on the dimensions, the size of bit available, how many are being cut in one go and a few other factors that I probably haven't thought of. The most efficient way is to use a profile cut with the 90 degree bit so you end up with two pieces with a 45 on them (unless you're cutting on the edge)...

Re: Transferring really old designs to V11

STL files become components once they are imported so you can open the old VCarve files and you can copy/paste the components between open VCarve sessions to build new jobs if needed.
