Re: Considering Vcarve

Thanks for both of those answers. If I understand correctly I can only use a rough/finish path with an import of an STL. I cannot use pocketing, VCarve etc? This changes my workflow a fair bit You can use the other toolpaths but you need vectors for those to work not just an STL and if you want the...

Re: Considering Vcarve

Best answer is to watch the training videos available on the Help menu. Essentially you import the model and then create a 3D roughing toolpath and a 3D finishing toolpath. There is no need to use vectors unless you want to constrain which parts are 3D machined and/or you want to use 2D toolpaths on...

Re: Show vectors in preview

No you can't see vectors in the toolpath preview itself. However if you make the toolpath visible (check box in the Toolpaths list) while in the 2D view you can see the toolpath visually there and you can also toggle between a solid toolpath and a wireframe toolpath by using the controls on the top ...

Re: Rim around my model

Having looked at the file there is indeed a 0.0977 gap above the model and there is no zero plane which is a good idea to add when dealing with a dish type model.

By the way you've posted in the Cut3D software section rather than the Aspire software section.

Re: Pocket Toolpath not Ramping plunge moves

You don't need to cut anything. Just look at the wireframe previews, ramps are a cyan colour. Experiment with the settings until you get what you want and then verify if it's physically possible.

Re: Pocket Toolpath not Ramping plunge moves

It's to do with the stepover values of the tool and the Offset tool strategy combining in what is a small starting area. If you increase the stepover of the tool to around 50% of the diameter you should see the ramps start to show in the preview. For a full 2" ramp on a circle you'd need to switch t...

Re: Group Toolpaths from Separate Sheets

Do you have both sheets of material on the table at the same time? I'm not following the reasoning of what you're trying to do.

Pretty sure it can't be done but it's not something I've ever tried as I cut one sheet at a time.

Re: dxf files - How to make cut files with them?

Always best to draw natively whenever possible as it avoids a lot of hassles.

DXF isn't a great format to use either. I would be looking at SVG or EPS if available.

Re: Tool pass depth vs pocket depth

I think it's just a typo, It means the Set Passes button. There hasn't been a "Set Associated Passes" in any version as far as I know. Older versions of the documentation before they changed to the current version said: To apply either method click the associated Set Passes button to create the resu...

Re: Tool pass depth vs pocket depth

I can't edit my previous post. FWIW, I find this behaviour odd given that in the settings, it shows the 2D toolpath tolerance as .0004". To me, that degree of accuracy is at odds with the "rounding" of .375 to .4". That's not the tolerance for pass depths. It's a totally different setting. You can'...

Re: Straight line open vector cut in both directions

Have you simulated the toolpath? If I create an open vector and then create a profile toolpath set to On the line with two passes then it does the first pass in one direction and the second in the other. That sounds like what you're wanting to do. Older versions you would have needed to do that as t...

Re: Tool pass depth vs pocket depth

I really don't see it as an issue as it's been that way as long as I've used the software and I can only remember it being raised once before which is what jogged my memory. We're only talking 2/100" after all. If you think it's a major problem then it's probably best to email support to get the ful...

Re: closed and open vector question

Thank you for getting back so quick. When I import the svg it shows as 2 separate vectors. I'm trying to just cut a profile on the vector at a shallow depth (small groove). Are you saying just select both vectors and apply the toolpath or do you think it's an issue when I create the svg in another ...

Re: closed and open vector question

All depends on what toolpath you're using and how you want it to cut. If you're using a profile toolpath just set it to On the line rather than Left/Right and you can draw it as rectangle with a line down the middle. You can't create a closed shape of that sort without some sort of overlap of a vect...

Re: Tool pass depth vs pocket depth

From memory there is a tolerance that will generate one pass if the pass depth is close to the cut depth. You can override that by clicking on "Edit Passes" and then checking "Maintain exact tool pass depth".
