Re: Understanding the purpose/function of Document Variables

The primary use for them is in toolpaths as they are evaluated when the toolpath is calculated so you can use a document variable for, as an example, a start depth in multiple toolpaths and then only have to change it once and click Recalculate All rather than having to change it in every single too...

Re: 11.006 issue

Assuming that you don't actually have Aspire running perhaps it might be your virus control software holding the executable open? Odd that a reboot didn't clear it though.

Re: Shopbot pp V11

Nothing stopping you from using the old post processor you have. The one I use I wrote nearly 10 years ago for my Shopbot. C7 is a custom (macro) call to whatever you have setup in SB3 at that location. By default its the routine that decides whether to call the manual or automatic tool change routi...

Re: What on earth is going on? really stuck, need help!

Or, is there a way of doing it? I've certainly not seen a way of typing in dimensions. You can type in values for pretty much every tool in VCarve rather than move with the mouse. With a lot of the more common ones you can type directly as you use the tool rather than entering into the dialog as we...

Re: What do you use yours for?

I machine many different types of plastics as one of my CNC businesses is making instrument clusters and other parts for race cars. The feeds and speeds I use for my machine wouldn't apply to your machine as mine can move more quickly, has bigger steppers etc etc. Best place to start with feeds/spee...

Re: Is there a easy way to post your gcode with a rotation factor?

I know how to do that, I mentioned it in my first post. I was wondering if there was an easier way because that can prove to be a pain in the butt if I have to go back and edit things later on. It's easier to work in horizontal mode. Is there a way to switch the X/Y plane in aspire so you can still...

Re: Shopbot pp V11

The Shopbot processors were consolidated down to those a while ago. The TC one includes all the arc commands and if you don't have a tool changer it will prompt you to change tools manually instead.

Re: Multiple clearance tools

You've re-activated a 9 year old thread. The method of multiple clearance tools is totally different in the current versions of the software so if people don't spot the dates the first posts in this thread are going to really confuse them. If you're doing a large pocket you wouldn't use the v-carve ...

Re: Is there a easy way to post your gcode with a rotation factor?

Rotation in the XY plane? Just use the rotation tool, press Recalculate all on the toolpath tab and save the code. There's no way to change the code generated in the Vectric software without rotating the underlying vectors and recalculating the toolpaths.

Re: Nesting Version 11

The way nesting works was completely changed in 11 so it does many things differently to the way 10.5 did including the naming.

You can now nest on different sized sheets, have different sized nest borders on those sheets, name sheets to be whatever you want, have different z-zeroes etc etc.

Re: Default Clipart Directory

You can move the clipart anywhere you want after installation. If you want to change the default install folder then the only way to do that is to either use symbolic links at the Windows level or, what I've done, move the default location of Public Documents (and optionally others) to another drive...

Re: What on earth is going on? really stuck, need help!

As long as your jig holds the areas you're cutting flat then the fact that the rest of the shape is 3D at an angle doesn't matter. Same thing for the overall depth of the piece. You're only cutting a couple of mm into it so set the z-zero to the top of the material in VCarve and away you go. The too...

Re: What on earth is going on? really stuck, need help!

Watch these tutorials - https://www.vectric.com/support/tutorials/vcarve-desktop?category=2d-toolpaths They cover the basic 2D toolpaths including the profile ones. I can't emphasis enough how important it is to spend time with the tutorials and don't move on until you understand the concepts. You'r...

Re: What on earth is going on? really stuck, need help!

It's just a simple profile cut. Draw the circle and use the profile toolpath. I would use a small end mill for that rather than an engraving bit as well unless you need the cut to have an angled side.

Re: What on earth is going on? really stuck, need help!

It's behaving correctly. If you just want to scribe the circle then you need to use a profile toolpath not a v-carve one. A v-carve toolpath will produce a cut with sloped sides as deep as it needs to reach a point which is exactly what you're seeing. The file is so huge because of the number of too...
