Re: No suitable parts to nest

Yep, just tried it and that worked. Open vector inside of a closed vector.

Re: No suitable parts to nest

Thanks, Randall, I appreciate it. I will close the vector and try again.

Although...the help doc for nesting indicates that it works with open vectors (see attached screenshot). Is that correct, or have I read it wrong?

Thx, rink.

No suitable parts to nest

Good afternoon. I'm trying to nest a closed vector. I've nested before on other projects with no problems. I'm attaching the VCarve file and a screenshot of the error message. The file has two layers: Layer 1 (black) and Clamp Line (red). One closed vector on Layer 1. Boundary is the Clamp Line laye...

Re: V Carve and imac

Good afternoon.
I don’t know the specs on the M3 chip, but everything runs just fine on my M1 MacBook with 32Gb RAM. See attached pic for specs.

Thx, rink.

Re: Large Circle -

Yep, +1 on tiling. Until I upgraded recently, I had a NextWave Piranha with a work area of only about 1 sq ft. I had to tile several jobs. I used tiled toolpaths to make a sanding disc for an acoustic guitar top and back. It was about four times the size of my CNC. So I tiled the job in both X and Y...

Another way is to make use of Guides > Create New Parallel Guide > Relative to Guide > Position / Offset. Sharkcutup Several great ideas in this thread from the experts and I’ve used them all at one time or another. But +1 on using guides. I only started using guides recently and they have been sup...

Re: Tool database

Have you tried changing the material designation in the drop-down at top-left corner of the tool database window?

Yes, a negative value will make and inside cut larger. Easy enough to verify. Make your value -3mm and recalculate.
Yes, of course, I should have just modeled it at a very noticeable large offset to verify. My miss.

Thx, rink.

Re: Profile Toolpath - Allowance offset

Steve, thanks for the info. Yes sir, I did hit F1 and I read that. But as it’s a profile cut, I wasn’t sure how to interpret that for inside vs outside cuts. Seems to me that the descriptions of “smaller” and “larger” could have different meanings for an inside cut rather than an outside cut. A diag...

Profile Toolpath - Allowance offset

Good afternoon everyone. I’m making a small cabinet to sit underneath my CNC table. I'm using 3/4" plywood, measured to 18.2mm. Essentially a box with a vertical divider in the center to create two sections, one for drawers, the other for shelves, no front. I used the box creator gadget to create th...

Re: Tool Database

Is your machine heavier duty than my HD500? I am hoping to hear from someone with a similar machine; to hear what their experience has been. Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Good morning. I recently upgraded from a NextWave Piranha. It’s similar to the shark, but smaller, essentially sa...

Re: Parts being cut smaller than toolpath dimensions

Yup, last week I mounted a brand new 1/8” end mill in the router and away I went. But then my slot-together reindeer parts didn’t fit. And nobody likes sloppy reindeer parts. So I measured the bit. Sure enough, it’s NOT 1/8”…it’s 3mm. Amazon said the bit was 1/8”…that dimension was stated on the pro...

Re: Tool Database

Good evening. If you’re getting a lot of chatter, have you checked your feeds and speeds? You’ll probably get responses here from people much more knowledgeable than me…that says if your bit is chattering you may be cutting too slow. Especially if you’re getting any burning. For a 1/4” end mill, 2-f...
