Have you tried a tapered end mill? Like a tapered ball nose, but a flat tip.
That's exactly what I use. Tapered bits.

Re: Tear out

How about a backer block? That's what I use on chopsaw, tablesaw and router table. Backer block keeps your work piece from having blowout.

Re: Looking for someone to put this into a 3D carving

Thank you all for the replies. Yes, I would like to stay with the M1 Garand as it has special meaning to me. I have relatives that used it in WW2 (Pacific theater - Iwo Jima, Guam, plus other amphibious landings) and Korea. I used it when I was in bootcamp in the mid 70's. I love the rifle. I have l...

Looking for someone to put this into a 3D carving

I hope this isn't to controversial. I've been wanting to make a picture frame (attached image) for a beautiful sign my daughter got for me. Where the rifles overlap, I would want them to not be hidden, like they are in the picture. I've also attached the files for the rifles at the four sides. Would...

Re: tinnitus

I'm 63 and have had it since I my first Coast Guard unit which was a 378' ship. My general quarters billet was in the 5" gun mount. This gun mount came off a WW2 aircraft carrier. I was the trigger puller. The only hearing protection we had was sound powered phones (which offer NO hearing protection...

Re: Laser module postprocessor issue

I'll give Endurance props for their hype/sizzle: they certainly make one think that they are going to get an all singing/all dancing laser setup with minimal fuss. Smoke and mirrors, I guess (I think there is a laser related pun in there, but I'm too dense to know if it makes sense....). Allan It's...

It is the circle in the upper right hand corner with 3 dots. Hover over it and it will say Custom and Control Google Chrome.

Of course it does NOT work nor does Ctrl P. You can not do a ctrl P and print the whole manual!
I guess Firefox doesn't have the 3 dots. Bummer.....

In my shop cutting softwoods with HSS works better than any carbide bits I have tried.
Interesting. Never tried HSS. What HSS bits do you use? What kinds of speeds and feeds do you use?

For those of you who like a printed or PDF searchable manual.

3) Select Print from the Windows Customize and Control button (Windows 10)
Where is this button? I've got Windows 10 and use Mozilla Firefox. Is the button in the Microsoft browser? Thanks

Re: Flat Sawn vs Quartersawn Lumber - What is Preferred?

I responded over on the ShopBot forum. Here's what I wrote. Quartersawn is more stable then flatsawn because of the grain direction. Cedar is going to be fuzzy no matter what grain you have. Most soft woods cut/carve/engrave with fuzzies. Just the nature of the wood. I've tried super sharp, brand ne...

Re: etching glass

OK, this is probably gonna make me feel foolish, but I can't seem to figure out how to stop the spindle on my Axiom 8 pro plus using the aspire software. I would like to do some drag etching but for the life of me, I can't seem to stop the spindle from turning. Any suggestions? You cannot stop it w...

Re: 3D Reliefs free

I've noticed that some models will download. Others have a donate button and if you use that, you can download. I tried the last supper model and it said can only download after $2 donation. So I'm thinking some require a donation to access, others don't.

I do key slots all the time in projects. 1. Click where you want it to start 2. Move the line the direction you want it to go 3. Stop when you've reached the length you want, click 4. Trace right back over the line you just drew and click when the cursors snaps to the beginning of your first line Yo...

Re: Persistent Aspire problem. (Is it just me!?)

What I've found is that this ragged edge also occurs in the carving itself. That, I don't think, is a screen resolution issue.

Even when I use a 1/16" ballnose bit with a stepover of 6%, I get these ragged edges. How does one get rid of this in the actual carving?
