Re: Version 12 Gadgets
I just downloaded all the new gadgets for V12. One suggestion, or maybe it already exists and I couldn't find it, the ability to select multiple gadgets to install (batch install) versus having to install each gadget individually. Just an idea....

Re: Aspire Version 12 is OUT NOW 🎉
Love the new look. It looks much more modern. The one thing I miss is the Save button that used to be on the Design Tab. The Open button is still there. Now have to either use CTRL-S or open the file menu. When I'm in mouse mode of operation, switching to keyboard is a little off. Is there anyway to...

Re: Material Surface or Machine bed surface set up?
Another thing to keep in mind when table surface zeroing versus material top zeroing, you have to have very accurate thickness measurements on your material for it to work correctly. I use a micrometer to get average thicknesses over a piece of plywood to the thousandth of an inch. I take this avera...

Re: Why would we want to make dovetails
I am not wedded to the curvy joint but expansion should be no more an issue than in dovetails, i.e. both pieces will expand across their widths. The longer I have built furniture the less I am concerned with technique and the more I am concerned with design. The idea of showing off your hand skills...

Re: Why would we want to make dovetails
For over 20 years I've used mortise and tenon for all my drawer boxes. I also use mortise and tenon for all of my cabinet boxes. I assemble faceframes with pocket screws and attach them to the box with glue and pocket screws. I can cut all the mortises and tenons on the CNC when cutting cabinet part...

Re: Keyhole bits keep breaking
What type of material are you cutting? I use a .375" Rockler keyhole bit A LOT for doing sports plaques out of 1/2" MDF. I run 12000rpm, cut 1" per second, cut depth .375". Never broke a bit. Haven't done keyhole slots in solid hardwood.

All we can do regarding wood movement is engineer and design for it. We can't stop it.

Re: Off topic - computer question
I'm asking this question here because there are members who are computer experts. I'm looking for a recommendation on a computer cleaning app or program. Over time computers get bogged down with unnecessary stuff. I want a program that will search for and eliminate this stuff. Thanks, Phil I use a ...

Re: splintery plywood
I've got a 2009 Shopbot PRSAlpha with ATC. 5.5HP variable speed spindle. However, prior to this I had a manual tool change 2.2HP spindle and cut the same way. The results have been the same between the low powered spindle and the high powered spindle. My limitation on cutting feed speeds is my vacuu...

Re: splintery plywood
O guys, what are you doing to me? I had my dinner and wine and now you force me to do all those imperial-to-metric conversions... Do I really get it right that Don cuts 3/4 plywood (= 19 mm.) in two passes and a little ? Thus a good 8 to 9 mm.a pass with a 1/4" (6,3 mm) bit ? Then you don't even ne...

Re: splintery plywood
What diameter compression bits are you using? I think most of the ones that I have bought have an up cut section which is close to the diameter of the bit so smaller bits have a shorted up cut section. If I am using a ramp then I also use a lead in so that by the time the bit starts cutting the pro...

Re: splintery plywood
On the subject of compression bits: Most of the compression bits I've seen have a pretty long 'up' part (say, 5 to 7 mm.) which means you have to plunge or ramp more than that length into the material for a first pass. That rather scares me. Now I have seen a compression bit made by Cadence Manufac...

Re: splintery plywood
Hi. I have a unit of marine grade hardwood ply from India. Not sure of the species. Reddish brown, kind of looks almost like mahogany. I was having a tough time getting clean cuts, but ended up trying a down cut bit that I had and it cuts pretty well. the plywood still falls apart in spots on the f...

Re: splintery plywood
Sounds a lot like cheap plywood, The surface veneer is SUPER thin and way to fragile to work with (been there done that) and the glue they are using is not good for the application. When I find these situations in purchased plywood, I make note to NOT use this plywood again, as the manufacturer will...
