I have been using VCarve to cut out small parts from .032 inch or .9mm half hard sheet brass. Sheet sizes 180 x 75mm. Does anyone have a pet method for holding thin material? Straight lines appear overly difficult when you are new at this. I arrived at this thread because I'm trying to sort out using Vcarve to create/engrave machine tool indexing dials. This means making the correct number of tick marks around the circumference of a dial blank, and then adding numerals. ...

Many thanks for both replies. UCCNC forum suggests much frustration with 4th axis as well as Lathe Turn development... but I keep watching.
Acorn does look promising. New cash outlay and new learning curve required, but then that is pretty standard is it not...

Best Machine Controller for 4th axis

At present I use UCCNC with VCarve on a mill I converted to CNC. It all works well. I wish to add a 4th Axis. UCCNC does not supprt wrapping in its post processor. Are there any suggestions for an appropriate and affordable machine controller? Mach 3? Mach 4? Other?? Thanks for any suggestions Chris...
