Any word on the location of the 2024 Vectric User Group Meeting? I'm putting together some work/travel for autumn 2024. It would be great to know if a) there will be an in-person UGM and b) the UGM city or the general region (Northeast US, PNW, etc.).
Thanks!

Re: How can I cut circles without creating projectiles?
Thanks, Steve. I thought about using a 1/2-inch bit and my only reason for not using one is everything else can be done with a 1/4-inch. Sounds lazy but I was avoiding a bit change. Thanks for the suggestion!

How can I cut circles without creating projectiles?
I'm working on a design based on a 12-inch circle with a series of 1-inch holes spaced every 2 inches around the perimeter. Using a 1/4-inch bit, how do I toolpath the 1-inch holes so the bit starts near the center of the hole and works its way outwards to avoid leaving a piece of scrap inside the h...

Re: dishing out a 25degree radius
It sounds like you're describing "degree of curvature". In my world, that's based on 100 feet of arc length OR chord length depending on the purpose. Either way, I think we need some more information.

Re: Place a Location Marker on a County Map
I would start by checking with your state (or county) cartographer's office, Land Information Office, or county surveyor to see if they have a map with minor civil divisions (MCDs). Most likely *someone* in your state government already has this created and you just need to find which agency has it....

Re: Creating a cycloid
Curious, Canis? What CAD are you using? This interested me enough that I went ahead and set it up in GrassHopper. And yup, that was the video I was writing about. Hard to believe, but there it is. I really enjoy seeing practical applications of physics. I'm currently using BricsCAD v20 Platinum des...

Re: Creating a cycloid
... It seems to me that I watched a video a few months ago about cycloids and there was something about them being constant acceleration or something like that. Would have to go dig that up. The guy had models that showed some really neat stuff about marbles rolling down unequal tracks arriving at ...

Re: Creating a cycloid
I still think my suggestion is best. Using the equation presented and wiritng a gadget in LUA is also possible but I suspect beyond the capabilities of the original poster (sorry about presuming, CanisLupus). No need to apologize. I went the Excel route to generate a list of X, Y values and used th...

Creating a cycloid
Does anyone have a method for drawing a cycloid in VCarve Pro? I need to create the red line shown in the image below. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/69/Cycloid_f.gif FYI, from its Wikipedia entry, "... a cycloid is the curve traced by a point on a circle as it rolls along a straig...

tab/slot sizing (knock-down assemblies)
When designing for knock-down assemblies (furniture, jigs, etc.), how do you size the tabs and slots so components to fit together without requiring too much force (preferably no hammer required)? Suppose I have a 2-inch tab and a mating 2-inch slot. When I draw the components in VCarve should I inc...

Re: 2020 User Group Meeting - San Diego
Signed up... I attended my first UG meeting last year in Denver. It was a lot of fun and I learned a bunch. I found the community to be welcoming and so willing to share. It's really incredible! Earlier tonight, we were discussing a road trip from the midwest to attend this year's UG. Yeah, postpone...

Re: Toolpathing an edge treatment
I don’t know how large the bean shape is. But, it seems to me after you cut the shape out and remove the outer waste (leaving the bean edge clear of material all around), you could run a slotting tool around the edge and use lead-ins and lead-outs along a suitable offset vector. The bean would need...

Re: Toolpathing an edge treatment
For those about to ask, yes, I could use a handheld router or router table but the workpiece is already mounted on the CNC. Was this shape cut via said CNC? Or is it some pre-existing item that you mounted onto the machine? The piece will be cut on the CNC at the same time as three or four other to...
