Re: The power of NESTING

I primarily use VCarve for building pony walls, or countertops and the nesting feature saves me a TREMENDOUS amount of time, and setting up a toolpath template that processes toolpath based on my AutoCAD layers makes it incredibly fast, easy, and always works the same for every job. VCarve is a grea...

Re: Nesting Question

Been using the oversized vector as nesting boundary, and it works perfectly. It saved me 4 sheets on this job alone. Thank you so much for your help with this Adrian. I believe you were also the one who told me I could make a template job file for all my layers, and helped me figure out how the docu...

Perfect, that lets me know exactly what I needed.

I appreciate your help with this.

Re: Nesting Question

You have to size the vector to account for the extra gap that you don't want to see. I would tell you the exact dimensions but all this fraction stuff gives me a headache. I'm a metric man. In your case the vector would need to bigger than the material not smaller as you've got it now. There is no ...

Re: Nesting Question

I'm assuming that when I hit nest, it uses 1/2 of the bit diameter+clearance+border gap to place the part, is this correct? It shouldn't use 1/2 the tool at the border, it should be border gap only. It's wasting material using 1/2 the tool diameter. Having said that, you're always going to run into...

Re: Nesting Question

The other thing you could try is not use the border setting at all and use a boundary vector instead. I always use a boundary vector rather than a border as I need the border to be different sizes horizontally to vertically for my setup. How would I do that? Can it work using the nesting function? ...

I'm assuming that when I hit nest, it uses 1/2 of the bit diameter+clearance+border gap to place the part, is this correct? Is there any way to get it to place at ONLY the border gap setting? Or is it something I will have to do manually? Yes that it is what it's doing. You can set the tool size an...

Re: Nesting Question

A single piece? I'm curious: why even bother with nesting? How about just placing it where you need it with the Move Selected Objects command? Or even just selecting it and pressing F9 to centre it? I did that as a test to see if the large piece would nest within all my other parts for the job. I h...

Nesting Question

I'm trying to nest a piece that is 95-11/16" x 47-13/16" onto a 48" x 96" piece of plywood. My nesting settings are Tool Diameter=.375, Clearance=.03125, Border gap=.03125 for this job and it doesn't want to nest that piece. I oversized the sheet to just to see where it would place, and instead of t...

Re: Applying Template using old CNC Bit info

The last value you used will be saved in the file so if the tool is different from the last time you used the file you would need to update the variable before recalculating the toolpaths. Perfect. Thanks for all your help. Learning how to use these variables will save me a TON of time moving forwa...

Re: Applying Template using old CNC Bit info

If the tool is larger than the nominal size then you would need to move the toolpath away from the vector. If it was smaller then you would need to move it closer. If you're unsure of which way round to put the value just make it much larger than you would in reality and you'll clearly see which wa...

Re: Applying Template using old CNC Bit info

I'm reviving this post because I want to make sure I'm not thinking about things backwards, as I have done in the past. If my 3/8" tool is set to .375" in the toolpath database, but the actual tool mics to .345" my document variable should be -(.03") because the tool is smaller than actual setting, ...

Re: Associative Toolpathing Issue

Select all the horizontal pocket vectors and make them a Group (just press the letter G on your keyboard) Select all the vertical pocket vectors and make them a Group also. Then select one of those groups and create the Pocket Toolpath for just that group. Repeat for the other group. Run a Toolpath...

Re: Associative Toolpathing Issue

When you say to group them differently, are you suggesting creating a "horizontal pocket" layer and a "vertical pocket" layer, or am I misunderstanding what you meant?
