Re: True 4-axis toolpaths?
Can you show us examples of what you are trying to machine? ..... http://hbruns.com/images/IMG-1074.jpg In the 3D model of this chess piece, the area between the chin and the neck is open. That area cannot be reached with a 3-axis rotary tool path, so the finished product does not match the model. ...

Re: True 4-axis toolpaths?
Yea.... I was afraid that was the answer. Disappointing!
Where would one go to use the full capability of a 4-axis machine?

True 4-axis toolpaths?
Is there a way to generate toolpaths that use the X, Y, Z, and A (rotational) axes?

Re: 4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut
Yes - The machine was going from 0.00 degrees to 360.00 degrees via the shortest path... which is no movement at all along the rotary axis. Talking to Chad at Axiom Precision got me through this. There is a setting buried DEEP in the controller settings, and it is not mentioned in the 4th axis docum...

Re: 4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut
It would surprise me if there is no way to control that behaviour. One way around this would be to change your finishing strategy. Have the cutter travel along the length of the piece with the rotary turning a small amount each pass. That is the way I do most rotary jobs. This does work. With the s...

Re: 4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut
Pretty sure it's a DSP controller
It's a RichAuto B18
Image from the Internet - Mine has all english writing on the buttons
I have heard of no rollover equivalent for this controller

Re: 4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut
SteveNelson46 - I am importing & using the larger OBJ file and not an STL file. When either the STL or the OBJ file is used, and a raster angle of 0-degrees is used, this problem manifests. When either the STL or the OBJ file is used, and a raster angle of 45-degrees is used, this problem does not m...

Re: 4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut
TReischl - The red section you highlight is to make the dimples in the crown of the chess piece. Most of the file deals with this short section. When it is done with that section, the piece becomes symmetrical around the Y-axis. At line 5516 the code changes to a Y&Z step, then a full rotation, then...

Re: 4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut - FOUND A BUG
I'm pretty darned sure I found the problem. Short answer - There is a bug in the software. Longer answer - The tool path that produced the incomplete part is a FINISHING RASTER tool path with a 0-degree raster angle. What SHOULD happen is the Z-axis lowers to the cutting depth and the A-axis rotates...

Re: 4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut
Z-zero isn't the issue (ran into that already and fixed the issue).
The part is correctly carved, but the carve ends before the part is complete.

4th Axis Incomplete Finish Cut
I cannot get the FINISH tool path to complete a cut. The machine (Axiom Precision AR6) finishes the file, yet the piece is not done. Everything looks great in the software (VCarve Pro 10.5), yet I have never had a piece that was completely cut. I have re-downloaded & re-installed the 4th axis post p...
