Re: Material Surface or Machine bed surface set up?
In this case I would use machine bed surface. The alternative is to design an unmachined area that you would use as a consistent material surface reference. I have used both approaches. Having a closer look at your image, it looks to me like the material isn't flat and true to the machine bed surfac...

Re: Multiple Windows
You can have multiple full instances open. But VCarve and Aspire are not MDI (Multiple Document Interface) apps.Just open the second and subsequent files from the File Manager instead of from within VCarve/Aspire.

Re: Microsoft Surface Pro 9 Aspire
I've been running the latest Aspire on a MS Surface Book 2 for a couple of years. No problems at all, although I think I had to manually turn on access to the graphics co-processor. I don't think the Pro 9 has a graphics co-pro, so that won't be an issue. Before the Surface Book, I ran VCarve Pro on...

Re: MDF Wood Question??
I've used MDF for quite a few 3D projects. I glue the 3/4" sheets together with Titebond to get the depth I need. The finest detail is limited to what a 1/8" round-nose bit will carve. Anything smaller will chip out, and even at 1/8 there's a lot of chipped out areas. For what I'm doing, that doesn'...

Re: Backlit signs
When you say "..and a top layer in 3 colours." What do you mean by 3 colours? Is the top 0.10" resin layer a mixture of three different colors or did you use a single color for 3 different areas of the sign? 3 different colours in 3 different areas. The text is a shade of dark blue. The trees are g...

Backlit signs
For the past two weeks or so I’ve been working on an interesting little PTB (Pay The Bills) project for a local couple. They commissioned two signs, one for their property and the other for their neighbours. They share a main driveway which splits at their properties, both of which overlook the Otta...

Yes, that someone is me. When Tailmaker closed down his hosted site, I offered to make the files available on one of mine. Visits to the page with his files still generates almost half my site traffic! His entire suite of programs and designs is here: https://fabrikisto.com/tailmaker-software/

Thanks! I have that model saw but never got around to doing anything about that gap. I almost never cut angles, so this a great add-on for me.

Re: will a mac laptop configured with all the bells and whistles hardware wise
You will need to run VCarve on Windows within a Virtual Machine such as Parallels. Vectric products are Windows-only. Others make that work, I personally don't consider it a worthwhile effort. I've used Mac, Linux, and Windows. To each task, the correct tool.

Re: Grease zerks
Have you looked into a flexible rubber hose for the grease gun? My larger gun has always had a 6" or so flexible hose, not a solid tube like on my small gun. Keep in mind that you may not want to use grease. The last part of the Wikipedia article on Zerks mentions that the same fitting can be used f...

I'm not sure "supercharge" is a forward-thinking word, as it is usually associated with internal combustion engines, and sometimes with Tesla (the automaker).

Re: "Sanding" finished carvings
I haven't seen anyone mention machinist's rifflers. My father was a Tool & Die maker and I have his set. They are all double-ended, ranging from a slight curve at the end to a very small hook. Something like this: https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/hand-tools/files-and-rasps/rifflers/20139-d...

Re: Creating .nc file from .txt
Hi, and welcome! If you are confident of the accuracy of your code, you could just change the extension from txt to nc. Have your hand over the e-stop on your OneFinity when you test it! Unless you created the toolpaths in VCarve and just created the GCode manually, VCarve doesn't enter into the equ...
