Re: Resin inlay - getting through the Christmas list

A question for all you resin inlay guys. From what I have seen, most users are using Epoxy Resin for their resin inlay projects. Anyone using Polyester Resin. I’ve used polyester resin for years laying up fiberglass models and like to shorter cure time as opposed to the longer cure times with epoxy ...

Just another bowl

Time to move on from cutting bowls so this is the last one I cut. It measures 10 x 7 x 3 and made from Cherry and Curly Maple. Oval dish top.jpg Oval dish bottom.jpg Oval dish side.jpg Have a question for all you Vectricians out there. As the bowl had an oval base I wanted to have a thin flat base o...

Re: Salt please

Not to throw salt in anyone’s wounds here guy’s but I think you’re missing the point. As Michael says we’re not throwing hand fulls on but just a FEW crystals. The pieces I glued together today were 20x12x2 and I used just a pinch of salt and nothing moved. Just as in life, moderation is everything....

Salt please

Saw a tip on one of the woodworking shows recently. When laminating pieces together we all know that when clamping, the pieces tend to slide on the glue. Applying some salt crystals to one of the pieces holds them from slipping. Tried it out this morning and darn if it doesn’t work. :) Salt not suga...

Re: machine enclosure

+1. As would I. I’m considering an enclosure made from 80/20 components. Now that I’m into projects which require long bits the “Singing” of these bits can be annoying, especially with extended cut times. I live in a retirement community and don’t want the raise the ire of my elderly neighbors. :mrg...

Re: Aspect Ratio

Thanks Guys Randall, Tried both ways and still didn't give me the result. If my radius was not so tight it probably would be ok. I'm using a very long and very narrow oval. Steve, Extrude and Weave.......What a concept :D Works great Must be a good day....I just learned something. (Now if I can just...

Aspect Ratio

Ok, I'm having another senior moment. Importing clipart of a oval rope border and trying to resize it. Using Aspire, when I resize it does not maintain the aspect ratio. On the small arcs of the ends of the oval the rope image, for lack of a better term, get squished. I know I've done something simi...

Scott
Balancing my max Z, bowl height, long cutter length, collet nut diameter, spindle mount plate protrusion, safe Z of .125 I call it my “Pucker factor” when I press Start Cut.

Measure twice, cut once really comes into play....

Bowled over

This is my third bowl and made it from Canary Wood. 5 1/2 inches in dia. x three inches tall finished with clear Danish Oil. After I finished i realized this would have been a good candidate for resin inlay.....maybe next time. At least this one didn't have a hole through it  3rd bowl top.j...

Randy Inspired me

From his recent UGM demonstration on Textured Bowls I decided to give them a try. The bowl on the left is Birdseye Maple w/ clear Danish oil. it is 6 inch's in dia. by 2 inch's tall. I used his original design however, I drew my own vectors.(Even though I do have his files) The bowl on the right is ...
