Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting

On the SETTINGS page in Mach3 there's a box labeled ROTATION RADIUS. Put the radius of your part in the box corresponding to which ever axis your rotary is on. This will make the rotary axis turn closer to the same speed that the others do. In a multi-axis move, the machine will move at the speed of...

Thanks. The outside pieces took about 3.5 hours each to carve.

End grain cutting boards.

These are gifts for the guys that I met back in 1971 when I was a freshman at the University of Illinois. There are still 7 of us that get together at least once a year. The board is 12" X 16" X 1 3/8" hard maple. The inlays are walnut, hard maple, and red oak.

Re: Cryptex

Scott, The resin is made by Stick Fast. It's reusable, so whatever isn't sucked into the wood can be saved and used again. The vacuum generator is made by Hold Fast. It all came as a kit, so I assume it's all the same company. It came with the vacuum generator which runs off of an air compressor. I ...

Re: Cryptex

Thanks yall it was fun to build. Michael, the parts were vacuum resin stabilized. I roughed them out first then stabilized and baked them. It keeps the thin maple rings from warping.

Cryptex

The box is white oak. The compass rose is maple, cherry, and walnut. The cryptex itself is stabilized purpleheart and stabilized maple. The rings are two pieces with 26 half holes on the purpleheart and 1 half hole on the maple ring. To set the code, you rotate the outer ring to the position you wan...

Christmas Litho

I made this for my mom's 95th Christmas. There were 13 kids in her family. During WWII my grandpa was a machinist at LeTourneau-Westinghouse making war materials. My dad and one of my uncles were in Europe, and another one of my uncles was in the South Pacific. The local newspaper in Peoria, Illinoi...

Re: Kaleidoscope

Gary,
I had those plans for a long time before I got around to building the scope. Kaleidoscopes seem to be an addiction for me. My wife makes me get rid of one of the older ones when I build a new one. I might have to try one of the segmented tubes like you used. I like the look.

Nice job on the scope! Be careful though, they become addictive.

4 player cribbage board

Made this for my brother. Walnut with maple inlays. If I were to make another one I'd do V-Carve inlays for a better fit.
