Re: Bad poplar board

Poplar is my go to wood for photoVcarve, but the max depth is 0.08” with a ball nose bit, and I pick the whitest boards I can find and stay away from the ones with too much green in them. For vCarving and 3D work it does get a little to stringy but I have never seen one that bad.

Re: Burl advice needed

The wood Turning market in the northeast is on fire I would try a wood Turning forum to get top dollar for those burls, if I was closer the truck would be heading north right now. A bowl I could sell for 50 bucks down here easily sells for 100-150 up there. Vases and Clocks, and Bowls and Platters o...

Re: Laser

I have the 4.2w J-tech and for what I use it for it is great, but its driver is not variable power so I can’t burn grey scale images with it. They do have a 2.5w variable power laser that does really good work on pictures. When I looked at the shark before I got my axiom if I remember correctly the ...

Re: Laser in Tool Database

Vectric mentioned a laser module “coming soon” so I guess that is what it is for. I have mine set up as an end mill currently and it work fine with the quick engrave toolpath. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the laser module to see what functionality it adds.

Re: Learning PVC.. How am I doing?

Being a PVC novice myself I have been experimenting lately, here a a few I did this week. I use a 0.0313 tapered ball nose bit I just put it in the tool dB as a ball nose since at the depth I’m cutting the taper won’t matter. Max carving depth is 0.08” with 10% - 20% line spacing and a 45 degree lin...

Re: Confusing Error

been away from the computer for a while sorry for the delay. When I go to Selection>Select All Open Vectors the popup says no open vectors found. When I go to create the Quick Engrave (Fill) toolpath the popup says 4 open vectors found and are being ignored. I have been trying to upload the file as ...

Confusing Error

I have a file that when I go to create the toolpath it says there are 4 open vectors that are being ignored, but when I go to the menu bar and “select, all open vectors” it says there are no open vectors found. Visually I cannot find any open vectors, is there another way for the software to show me...

Re: Time estimate ?

Reduced the scale to 1 but unless I triple the feed rate for the bit the time estimate is grossly overestimated. Ex. Finish 3D pass that was done in 6 hours was estimated at 23hr 45m only way to get the software to get a close estimate was to triple the feed rate from 30inches/min to 90 Is the time ...

Time estimate ?

When finishing up a design after doing the toolpaths I look at the time estimate and it says 27 hours or so but when I cut it it is done in 2-3 hours. I have checked all the feedrates on the bits and looked at the rapid rates but I am at a loss as to why the software overestimates so badly. Anyone h...

Looking for tool advise

Got into my first project and realized I don’t have many bits since I just got a starter set with my CNC. My best result was with a 30* 0.25 vbit but I feel like I should be able to get better definition. What are some of your favorite bits to use with PVC before I run off to Amazon and fill my cart...
