The stepper, at least mine did when I used a 5 start screw.

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Good to know, but I doubt that I would ever use it in my practical world. Were I to make a clock face, or some odd shape, I would start with a square or rectangle and cut out the shape. I would use tabs to hold. I don't use a vacuum table, and double faced tape/tape with CA glue is more trouble tha...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Nope. The rosette was cut from side to side (raster) from start to finish, in both the roughing and finishing toolpaths. Aspire does not have a way of cutting a 3d model in a circular pattern - at least not that I've found. One option is to cut in what Aspire calls an offset. Offset cuts from the c...

The riser was cut by a series of circles rather than a side to side cut pattern right. Nope. Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Rosette.jpg Here is a picture of a 3d rosette I designed for a remodel of my house. It is 3-1/2" x 3-1/2". I ran both the roughing and finishing toolpaths at 125 IPM. The finishing toolpath was with a 1/8" ball nose. Lots of short, up and down moves. It cut out nice; no lost steps. I'm concerned ab...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Ok I’ll have all the steppers connected. When I first started running this CNC I obviously was under some misconceptions in how it operated and they are becoming clear. Namely i was under the impression that in EDIT TOOL when you set the FEED RATE and PLUNGE RATE that dictated the X,Y and Z IPM tha...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Unplug the steppers? Vaguely I recall something that would damage the drivers p, and I thought it was that if a driver didn’t have a load on it it would damage them. Or am I mistaken. Just want to be sure this is OK to do before I get started. Thanks I'm not sure about damaging the drives. I've not...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Set acc to 30 Removed the Z axis and put two leather gloves under it and electrical taped it solidly to the flat on top of the Z assembly I moved the driver connections from the A driver back to the original Z driver Set Z acc to 30. Loaded the same file And ran it for about a half hour. Didn’t hea...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Hager, I just thought of another test that may be worth trying. It may allow you to more definitively isolate the problem to either binding somewhere, or back to looking at the power supply and drive. Shouldn't be too much trouble, since you plan to tear Z down anyway. Here are the steps (pun intend...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Before this is closed out two quick questions 1 Where did the OEM motor tuning Acc and others come from? 2 If it’s indeed a tuning issue then give the guy some settings to use!! Sorry been on a road trip the past few days, now have my lovely wife driving. Bill, The first question is a good one. As ...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
So it’s time to look around and find a good design to plagiarize. I’m starting tomorrow to take it down. Thanks again Hager Hager, I've been working on my new CNC (my design) and will start posting about it, with pictures, in the next day or two. I will be posting on the Zone. If you're interested,...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
Gary, in the cut attachment above Ir cut just file with the low acc. The high acc caused the problem. This is the data that I ran with the “high” acc like I have ran for years, the file was air cut. I could hear the Z stepper skipping steps, like ZZZZZZZST, sometimes long sometimes just a short bur...

Re: gcode resetting my surface zero to Z-0.200"
The problem with running very conservatively is that you are avoiding whatever conditions that are causing cuts to suddenly go too deep. Gary Or the problem is that the accel is set too high for the condition of his Z axis. If'n it were me, I would set the accel just below the point where it causes...
