Re: Another carved seat issue
Now I remember you put a zero plane on some previous carved seat you shared on the forum. I didn’t understand why you did that at that time. Thank you for helping me out again.

Re: Another carved seat issue
If I have a 3D area where it will plunge too deep (around the edges of my seat) I'll make a 'border model' that sticks out from the seat 1/2" and is just lower than the seat model where the two meet. This keeps the bit from plunging down off the edge of the seat model. Thanks for the feedback rscra...

Another carved seat issue
Hello all, I finally started carving my seats, with some great help from rscrawford fixing the design issues. The blank is 516 x 503 x 40 mm I am only carving the seat and the nose on the CNC, the contour is done with regular woodworking tools. So I started the rough cut with a 0.25 straight uncut b...

Re: Stool Plans (Russell Crawford's)
I have just bought the plans for 17 and 24" stools. I must say I'm impressed. Old and new styles are included. also included detailed instructions for carving and setting up a jig for 4 legs carving. I haven't carved then yet but I can't wait. The hardest part is choosing which stool to make. I'll p...

Re: Help, 2 rails sweep carve
The fact is that the bit does not plunge at all even without a zero plane, that’s why it leaves that edge. In fact I want the bit to plunge further

Re: Help, 2 rails sweep carve
Hello Rcnewcomb, I have tried to play with the different values of the zero plane, but at any time it did help with that front carve. Any tip on how I should use it?Rcnewcomb wrote:Add a Zero plane.
Thank you.

Re: Help, 2 rails sweep carve
Set the "boundary offset" for the finish path to be just under half the diameter of the ball-end cutter? When I apply an offset, it messes up with the rest of the carve, as you can see on the hard-circle contour. I just can't reproduce Russell's half round on the front and it drives me crazy

Help, 2 rails sweep carve
Hello, thanks to the valuable help of the forum members, I managed to create my chair seat with the 2 rails sweeps. I just end up with a little leap in the front of the seat I would like to get rid of, so I can skip the final hand carving. I've seen rscrawford post about this (http://forum.vectric.c...

Re: Scooped chair seat - Maloof style
Well, I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded Carve Pro to Aspire. Cost was an issue but I couldn't stand with the 8.5 hours carve for a seat. I did the right choice, now my carving time went down to 1 hour with a much better finish. I've got an order for 12 stools which will have the carved seat,...

Re: Scooped chair seat - Maloof style
I am trying to figure out if it's worth upgrading to Aspire as I have a few of my chairs to build. If the carving time is much shorter, then I might go for it.
Thank you for your input.

Re: Scooped chair seat - Maloof style
Thank you for the reply. Yes I have noticed that the carving time has increased drastically. I end up with 8,5 hours per seat: Toolpath: Merged Toolpath Global Toolpath Info Time Estimate: 08:24:09 Toolpath Type: Create Merged Toolpath Feed Rate: 60 inch/min Plunge Rate: 30 inch/min Spindle Speed: 1...

Re: Scooped chair seat - Maloof style
You cannot use the free trial of Aspire to make a toolpath that you can use on your machine. However, in VCarve, you can draw closely spaced lines and then use the fluting toolpath to make the scoop. It will be a challenge if the scoop is to be sloped front to back. Here's an example of how it migh...
