Re: importing bitmap

Thanks for your responses! Taking adze's advice, I found a solid drawing, used the import bitmap tool, and was able to generate a toolpath to cut an outline of the Idaho map I was looking for. I still can't open any of the tutorials, but I found a workaround by downloading a current trial version an...

importing bitmap

I'm trying to import a line drawing of Idaho to edit and prepare for a profile toolpath with VCarve 9.5.
I tried to look at the tutorials on this subject, but for some reason I can't open any of them. Not sure
what is going on, any advice?

pyramidal panel

I've been asked to produce some raised panel doors that would have a shallow pyramidal shape. The panels would be machined out of 3/4 mdf, and the profile would be 3/8" tall, approximately 18" x 18". I think I should be able to do this using a 2 rail sweep and the molding toolpath. However, when I d...

Re: beveled and fluted edge on a table top

Thanks Mike, I'm going to try a couple tests to see if I can get it right.

Re: beveled and fluted edge on a table top

Mike - I took a look at your file and saw you used a double sided set up. What was the reason for that?

Also, how did you draw the angled flutes? I tried but get couldn't get the same result...

Re: beveled and fluted edge on a table top

Mike - your model shows exactly what I'm trying to do. However, I'm running V Carve 9.5 and can't open your .crv file to see how you did it. Is there any way for me to open it so I see what you did?

beveled and fluted edge on a table top

I'm trying to figure out how to add vertical flutes to a beveled edge table top. I know I can cut the beveled edge using a moulding toolpath, but I'm at a loss to determine the best way to cut the vertical flutes that would follow the beveled edge. If the edge wasn't beveled, I think I could do it w...

Re: trouble veiwing tutorials

I did end up finding the tutorial I wanted on youtube, via google.
For some reason, I can't link to the tutorials like I used to from
the the video tutorial browser from the help menu. Do I need
to update my software?

trouble veiwing tutorials

I'm trying to watch a tutorial, and for some reason they won't open.
I'm getting a message " no video with supported format and MIME type found".
I don't know what this means. I've never had a problem viewing tutorials before.
Any advice for this issue would be appreciated.

Re: beveled edge table top

So here's a photo of the finished table. The beveled edge got changed to a radius, but I followed the same procedure to get that.
I ran a test on a piece of 2" thick foam and worked! The walnut top came out great. Thanks again for everybody's help!

Re: Rotary modeling and toolpathing advice

4D - Thanks for the time and effort helping me with this project. I was able to open the new crv file and see how you did it. I edited the toolpath to make use of the tooling I have available, and glued up a foam blank to to test this. A few adjustments to my rotary axis and I'll be ready to give it...

Re: Rotary modeling and toolpathing advice

4D - you nailed the shape of my column, 4 flat sides with a 90 degree twist. Unfortunately, I can't open your attachments. (I'm using V Carve 9.5) I'm still not sure how to draw this. Any more thoughts on this?

Re: Rotary modeling and toolpathing advice

I was thinking of starting with an octagon because it would allow me to get a larger blank under the Z axis. A 10 x 10 square blank would be almost 14" diagonally, whereas an octagon would only be about 11". At that point I could turn it into a cylinder. I'll work up better dimensions and post those...

Re: Rotary modeling and toolpathing advice

I believe my equipment is up to the task. I have a 10hp spindle with 12" of Z clearance, and a stout rotary axis set up. For tooling, I have a 1/2" x 4" downcut chipbreaker bit for roughing out, and a 3/8" x 3.5" ball nose for finishing. This is at least twice as big in diameter as anything I've att...
