Re: Paint/Stain/Ink recommendations for SHALLOW cut

I used water-based craft paint on this image I made as a test piece. The overall size is 5.5" x 7.5". I sealed the cut with a clear coat finish after carving, and then applied craft store paint, wiping the excess off quickly before it dried. I'll use the same technique on my actual project. Craft Pa...

Re: Importing Adobe Illustrator file challenges

I run V Carve Pro 18.5 on my Mac using the Parallels interface. I was able to import your AI file directly into V Carve with no problems. It did have more nodes than expected, but using the Curve Fit command they were quickly cleaned up. I don't think your problem is the Mac interface. I'm also usin...

Re: Changing Ungroup default setting?

Thanks for the reminder to check the keyboard shortcuts list more often. I printed it out, but don't refer to it often enough. The idea of not grouping the vectors until they get on the new layer was also helpful. I still think the default for the U keystroke should be to ungroup to your current wor...

Changing Ungroup default setting?

Is there a way to change the default setting for the Ungroup command so that it does NOT ungroup "Back to original objects layer?" I almost always want to ungroup to the layer on which I'm working, and if I just use the keyboard shortcut "U", my object ungroups on its original layer.

Re: Exporting for Print or laser

I import into Adobe Illustrator, assign stroke thickness, and make the stroke black. No matter how wide you make the stroke so you can see it, it is still single vector.

Re: Removing tool markings on sign

Back to the original question of how to salvage it. If you feel ambitious you could use the Dremel to add more texture to the background and conceal the tool marks. An alternative is to paint or stain the background a dark color, and then sand the surface so it's back to its natural color. This look...

Re: Toolpath

Use the "CNCShark-USB Arcs (inch)(*tap)" or the one for mm and you should have no problems.

Re: Carving Cast Iron

So how did you do the final patina? Very nice by the way!! Walt The patina is a liquid from Sculpt Nouveau that you spritz onto the Iron B coating while it is still wet and it rusts the iron particles in the coating. The patina can also be applied after the coating is dried if you scuff the surface...

Carving Cast Iron

Okay, not really, but it looks like cast iron. I carved this sign out of mdf and then finished it with Sculpt Nouveau’s Iron B coating and then a final patina was applied to rust the iron particles in the paint. I photographed it outdoors so the the rust effect could be appreciated but it is an inte...

V Carve Pub sign

This 16” x 22” sign was caved from a 1.25” thick glued up spruce panel. The background was created using a texture tool path. Layout and design was done in V Carve Pro. Artwork was printed and glued in place before final polyurethane finish.

Re: Drilling tool path goes crazy when setting virtual zero

Have you defined the size of the virtual zero area in APPS section of your Shark? You may have to modify it fit your current project. Then when you set it on the fly for the job you will need to use the touch plate at five positions: each of the four corners and the center. When you start the virtua...

Re: Drilling tool path goes crazy when setting virtual zero

The Shark virtual zero requires that you set the XY data zero to the CENTER of the job and define the size of the virtual zero area. If you set the zero to anywhere other than center you will encounter the problem you are having.

Fixed it!

I restored the default values on the Job Sheet and restated V Carve Pro. The sheet seems to be working fine now.
