Re: VCarve Version 12 is OUT NOW 🎉
Super impressive results. Definitely different than the bitmap trace now that I've played around with it. Vectric, can we submit a request for a similar tool that generates vectors? Most of my work nowadays is with lasers where the vcarve toolpath won't work. (In the meantime, I can always screensho...

Is there a way to view/edit the intermediate vectors? Or is Sketch Carving basically the same thing as the Trace Bitmap tool, but without the vectors?Stephanie Downing wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 3:09 pmSketch Carving
Sketch Carving is a brand new feature that converts a high quality image or 3D model into a VCarve toolpath.

Re: Wood gear clock in Bamboo
Coping with a variable amplitude swing of the pendulum which drives the ratchet is a problem. Dick Bipes designed a clever cam mechanism which was too challenging for me. I designed a dual pawl system to drive the ratchet wheel, but it is rather difficult to describe it here. Do you have a descript...

Thanks, I actually read those threads before posting, but I couldn't find anyone comparing the different designers.

Have you tried printing the global variable _VERSION? Maybe MessageBox("Lua version " .. _VERSION)

Wooden Clock Plans
Does anyone have experience with clock plans from both Clayton Boyer and Brian Law? And any other designers? I've built a couple of Clayton Boyer's wooden clocks and I'm considering doing another. Clayton's designs are wonderful and his support is second to none. Still, I'm wondering if I should bra...

Has the gadget API been changed in v9? I'm still on v8.5 and I understood there was no planned development for increased API capability.

I would copy the existing dash in Aspire into its own project, then take some tight measurements with calipers and align the cnc to exactly where you want the dash. If you're off by a few thous, no one will notice. If you're way off, the entire thing it probably scrap, but it's unlikely to be accept...

Re: New user having trouble with moulding shape
I know you say you don't comprehend the videos but they really are your best way of learning. While I heartily endorse the videos, reading the reference manual was the most beneficial for me. Both are excellent resources and I still recommend the tutorial videos to all newbies. It's a bit like sayi...

Re: Shortcut Keys
All the short cuts are listed at the very end of the reference manual, at least for VCarve. The tutorials do a good job of tell you when they use shortcut keys so you can follow along. You'll be much faster using shortcut keys over the mouse when you can. For instance, memorizing Ctrl+Z for "undo" i...

That's a great suggestion for a gadget. And it wouldn't be that hard to create, either.Mark Bolton wrote:it would be a cool gadget to be able to select all closed vectors below a given size threshold
Next time I'm stuck removing small vectors, I may just write it up.

Re: no suitable vectors found
Is the vector grouped? Select it and hit "U" a couple times to ungroup everything.
Is the vector closed? Select it and hit "J" to join it into a solid vector.

Re: inlay on an angle
You can try to perfectly model the angle with a 3D creation and cut that, or if you have a control panel that has a "virtual zero" it can sense the angle while you treat everything as flat. If it were me, I'd eschew both of those approaches and just go for simple. Take your workpiece, put risers und...
