Thanks for the suggestions. I need to spend some shop time actually measuring some new bits I purchased that were inexpensive but whose specs are questionable.

Very informative and interesting discussion about measuring.
Question: Would doing a test cut and then measuring that be more accurate? Would you measure inside the cut or outside?

Patrick, Not sure I completely understand the difference between mitre and miter as I looked that up and got different answers. I did use use a 45 deg V bit for cutting the backside into 8 sections (I call them staves) held together by tabs at the top and bottom of each. This folds into an octagon. ...
