I've found acrylics work very well. You can brush on and sand when using unpainted wood. For painted surfaces I use a spar urethane over the painted surface, then after carving, paint with acrylic which paint outside the v carve can be easily wiped off with wet cloth. I usually finish entire project...
I've been asked to make some keepsake plaques for lost loved ones. Corian really works well for this sort of plaque. these are two of several I have made for people. I used acrylic paint and Spar Urethane finish.
I'll be searching Google for instructions for these games that you fellows have mentioned. I might have to make my own marble game. However, I'm not so sure about the "Mensch Ärger DIch Nicht" - "Man, don't get mad" version. Very interesting!! Thanks for all your replies.
A friend asked to use my CNC router to put the pockets and wording on a board he had glued together. He didn't show me how to play the game, but he said it worked out so that they could play it.

I really enjoy using all the CNC tools as in this case the router and the laser. It seems to me that lasered images would be safer on a cutting board than routed ones. Does anybody have any data on that?
