Re: Negative allowance doesn't work

My goal was to do a last pass to clean up stray marks from prior profile cuts. Just a little clean up. I am cutting corrian and was trying to eliminate a bit of sanding on the edges.

Re: Negative allowance doesn't work

Here is the file. Again, no matter what negative number I put in (i want to use -.001) it removes the minus sign.

Re: Negative allowance doesn't work

Well, just to try that, I put in "1" and it blew way outside my outside profile so it's definitely outside. Negative should go inside. According to their docs: For the Outside / Right option, a positive offset value will leave more material on the outside of a closed vector or to the right side of a...

Negative allowance doesn't work

I was under the impression that I could do a negative allowance (-.001) on an outside profile for a last pass to "clean up" any roughness from prior passes. When I enter -.001 (or any negative number for that matter) the negative is ignored. It says in the documentation that a negative number will r...

Combine overlapping vectors

I have a rather complicated piece that is made up of individual objects. I have placed them together but would like to eliminate the duplicate/overlapping vectors (no need to cut it twice) and then save a .SVG file. Any ideas how to do this?

Pocket toolpath outside in

Usually when I do a pocket carve, VCarve, calculates the tool path from the inside out. This is preferred as some of my pockets clear all the way through the material. However, I have noticed that sometimes it does outside in. This is problematic because if it it does the outside first the material ...

Pocket is way innacurate

I have tried the following test pocket and you can see that the letters are not cleared well at all. Specifically, look at the "N"s. I don't know what might be going on. The letters look fine otherwise. This was cut with a 1.5mm endmill and pass after pass is exactly the same. Any suggestions? Thanks

What to do to fix? Tighten belts maybe?

What causes this (extended corners)...

I notice that when I carve a simple rectangle with (in this case) a 1/4" endmill, the corners drift outside the vector. What causes this. See photo below inside the box (rough carve):

Re: Oddness to smoothing pass

THe use of the bit is not really in question here. Its the break in the vector.

Re: Oddness to smoothing pass

Stand up to the fact that it breaks the vector. Nothing should do that short of inserting the wrong size bit. But I, at least, can work with this issue now that I understand it.

Re: Oddness to smoothing pass

It's a lot easier to sand a ridge rather than to glue dust back together to form the sides/vector.

Re: Oddness to smoothing pass

I understand that (now) but the program knows the tool width and doesn't justify breaking the vector.
