Curing some hickory
A neighbor had a tree cut down and I was able to score a few 18" dia by 1-1/2" thick slabs. Looking for some advice on how to cure them. Thanks

Re: What wood to use
Yes I can resaw. I did so many trials I'm not sure of the font. Whatever I finally used I did some offsets to make them thicker.

Yes, 3" tall. I'm planning on curves not corners.

Thanks to both. It's not for a school, just a present for a great grandson.

What wood to use
I'm making some letters to use in a child's puzzle. The letters will be about 3' high and 1/2' thick. Looking for suggestions of what wood to cut them out of so they don't break easily. Thanks in advance.

Re: Roundover bit goes too deep
I found the problem, It was a PICNIC error (PICNIC = Problem In Chair Not In Computer). Searching through my drawer of spare parts, there was another roundover bit. A true 1/4 point roundover, Whiteside 1572.

Re: Roundover bit goes too deep
From adze "Well, is the material thicker than the program was told? Was the cutter zeroed before the cut and not just inserted and was using the last tool's setting? If you run the same file again on the same (or material) is this repeatable? No, material is 3/4", and I'm zeroing off the top with a ...

Re: Roundover bit goes too deep
Adze is correct, the tip does have a 1/16" flat bottom, but it still shouldn't go to deep. 7/32 = .2188, and I set the depth at .200. I've inspected the bit, it's fine. The flat spot's not an issue for this carve. Machine just seems to be loosing it's Z zero. Should I try a factory reset on the cont...

Re: Roundover bit goes too deep
Pretty sure it's a quarter circle, settings are the same as another project that came out fine. Used a touchpad to set the zero.

Roundover bit goes too deep
I'll bet it's simple, but can't figure out why my round-over bit goes too deep. Bit is a 7/32" radius, start depth 0.00, depth of cut set as .2". Looks to go about .3" deep. Thanks for the help.
