Re: Creating a vector centered between two curved vectors

That worked great! I offset the outline vectors and marked the intersecting points, then I used three of those points to draw a Bezier curve. The pictures show one offset, and to get the next point I just changed the offset. Interestingly, the Bezier curve I eyeballed in the other picture was almost...

Re: Creating a vector centered between two curved vectors

One could offset the vector inward various amounts until the resulting vector has sharp ends. The endpoints will be centered between the two vectors. Repeat for more points. When you have enough, connect them with a bezier curve. I don't think this will be any easier, but it will be more accurate. ...

Creating a vector centered between two curved vectors

I need to draw a vector that's exactly centered between two curved vectors, like the highlighted line in the picture. I just eyeballed it to show what I want to do, and the only other way I can come up with is to draw several lines between the curves and snap to the centers of those. This is not ver...

Re: please please please add an undo history form

Incremental saves work better. That's what I do. I save as "v2", "v3" etc, especially before I start making changes that could end badly :D Many times I also add a note to the file name as a makeshift change log, like "v5 raised model height". If I wasn't so lazy, I would use a Word document as a r...

Re: Installing controller, Laguna IQ

I would rewire it to a different controller, but if you got 5 years out of it, maybe you will get 5 years out of another rich controller? I haven't counted, but I'd say that I have easily put 5,000 hrs on it (probably closer to 10,000). I don't know how long these things last, but I still think I g...

Installing controller, Laguna IQ

My Laguna IQ has started behaving erratically in the past two weeks, and I suspect there's something wrong with the controller. Sometimes it refuses to read from the USB, sometimes it will re-read from the USB after jogging the machine and sometimes it will go awol and not react to input at all. The...

Re: Reversing spindle rotation, Laguna IQ

Solution: Switch two of the three wires connected to the VFD. Problem solved, and the new spindle is up and running! :D

Re: Reversing spindle rotation, Laguna IQ

I already have a call-in to Laguna, we'll see what they have to say. I dug a bit deeper and found that the motor side of the VFD has a 3-wire connection. I suspect that this is where it needs to be switched, and not in the terminating strip where the wires go out to the spindle.

Reversing spindle rotation, Laguna IQ

I just bought a new spindle for my Laguna IQ, and it runs in reverse. From what I have read on the internet, you can simply switch any two wires and the spindle will run the other way. If I understand it correctly there's three wires you can switch, with the fourth one being the ground. The problem ...

Re: Best 1/4" 90 degree V-groove bit?

I haven't had time to try them all, but after running a batch of gun grips I can tell that Amana Tool 45626-K SC does a very good job. I got the 4-flute Amana bit wb9tpg recommended, but it's a split tip where only two flutes go all the way to the tip. That will basically make it a 2-flute at the cu...

Re: Best 1/4" 90 degree V-groove bit?

Look at Centurion Tools Tried to order one, but got stuck in the checkout process. I'll try again later. Try these guys, american made and free shipping. https://www.carbidetoolsource.com/wood-router-bits/14-diameter-90-degree-2-flute-solid-carbide-v-bit-cnc-router-bit $10 sounds almost too cheap (...

Re: Best 1/4" 90 degree V-groove bit?

Amana Tool 51692 s great. Four flutes cut like butter and you can up the feed rates. It's my go-to 90 degree bit Thanks! On order 8) The Amana 3-flute I just tried seemed to do quite well, so I'm hoping that a 4-flute will be even better. For bits that are available outside of the UK the CMT laser ...

Best 1/4" 90 degree V-groove bit?

This is not related to Aspire, but I figured this was the place to get some good input: I have used Onsrud 37-51 for many years to cut the checkering on my gun grips, but the price has almost doubled in the past two years so I'm looking for alternatives. Today I tried Amana Tool 45626-K SC (with the...

Re: Cut alignment issue

Got it all squared away (no pun intended), and it seems like martin54 was spot on: It's necessary to slow it down for this cut. It lines up nicely now, and it only takes a few seconds to make it perfectly square with a sharp knife. And for those who were wondering what this was all about: These are ...

Re: Cut alignment issue

Have you measured the 1/16" bit to make sure it is actually on size,? Although I guess if it weren't then you would see the same condition in the y axis. Have you tried slowing the cut down a little? Might be some tool deflection. Didn't think about that since the same thing showed on the screen, b...
