Re: Cut alignment issue

Got it all squared away (no pun intended), and it seems like martin54 was spot on: It's necessary to slow it down for this cut. It lines up nicely now, and it only takes a few seconds to make it perfectly square with a sharp knife. And for those who were wondering what this was all about: These are ...

Re: Cut alignment issue

Have you measured the 1/16" bit to make sure it is actually on size,? Although I guess if it weren't then you would see the same condition in the y axis. Have you tried slowing the cut down a little? Might be some tool deflection. Didn't think about that since the same thing showed on the screen, b...

Re: Cut alignment issue

It's tight and usually very accurate, haven't had any problems related to backlash. Not too long ago I cut some Delrin pieces to fit inside each other, and it worked great. However, I have noticed that some used bits can be off by several 1/1000" sometimes, and beech is especially bad at wearing the...

Re: Cut alignment issue

You're right, this seems to line it up perfectly. This is just a small part of a larger model, ran a prototype this morning and I could swear the 1/16" bit didn't hit that corner... I guess I have to try again and pay closer attention to what happens. :D

Re: Cut alignment issue

...and a copy of the file. I have tried to offset the long lines by 1/16" and use the "cut on line" option, I have checked the tool diameters etc, etc, but nothing but moving the square seems to help. There must be something wrong with the 1/16" cut, I just can't figure out what it is.

Cut alignment issue

This has had me tearing my hair out this morning: I'm trying to cut a sharp corner by running two 1/8" passes and then cleaning it up with a 1/16" pass. I have tried different ways of doing this, but no matter what I do I end up with the 1/16" cut being slightly offset. The lines align perfectly in ...

Re: How to use "light follows viewer"?

Thanks, that's what I thought. It's no big deal, it's just that I don't like that sinking feeling I get when I flip the model and forget to turn 2 sided view on again... "Oh crap, where did the back of my model go?" :D

Re: How to use "light follows viewer"?

Yeah, I figure it won't do me any good in the 2D view :D Seriously, I work with two sided models, and it seems like "light follows viewer" can't be turned off when I'm in the "multi sided" mode. There wouldn't be much light on the back if I was able to turn it off, so I suspect it's on by default in...

Re: How to use "light follows viewer"?

It doesn't seem to work like that in the multi sided view though...?

How to use "light follows viewer"?

I might be missing something obvious, but how do you turn off "light follows viewer" in the multi sided view? Or is it on by default?

Re: "Different tool" warning?

Adrian wrote:The recognition of a tool is made up of many things not just the tool number. Anything that would change the geometry of the tool (diameter, angles etc) will lead the software to recognise it as a different tool.
Is there anything in the "edit" and "edit passes" menus that would change this?

Re: "Different tool" warning?

I do use the "edit" and "edit passes" buttons when I change the parameters, but how would that change the tool? Doesn't Aspire recognize a tool by the number, regardless of the parameters you set for a certain toolpath? It is entirely possible that it's some form of operator error, but I can't figur...

Re: "Different tool" warning?

Which is exactly what is happening, even if you dont remember doing that. Most likely by pressing the "Select" button, rather than the "Edit" button. Not sure if I follow you... this happens after I have edited the toolpaths. I run a preview, then I select the finished toolpaths and try to save the...
