Re: Flash Ring
Thanks all. Right now I am in a sorta bind. I am going to have to get rid of the machine. I plan on trying to get rid of the bed and mechanical bit. however I am keeping the electronics/motors/wires and the rotary axis setup. I am thinking of getting a new frame later that is easier to move. I am be...

Flash Ring
This was an experiment to see how well my rotary axis could do. I have bought a rotary axis from eBay to use on my custom system. The system is an old ISEL XY Cartesian robot with a Z axes added. It uses a Centroid Acorn controller. My crude setup was testing and it worked well for this project. The...

Re: Rings
If those of you who do not have a 4th/rotary axis you can still make a ring using 2 sided carving. Just make sure the lesser detail is on the sides your not cutting directly on. If you want you can easily just use a square block and make a 4 side cut. Tricky to pull off but you will have the ability...

@ TReischl
If I did that there wold be a chance of it spinning and ruining it.
The jig would be just a simple clamp that holds it in place while you bore it.
No chance of it sliding or moving.

Re: Rings
I used a rotary tool (similar to a dremel) to carve out the center.
I would have used the mill but I did not set up a jig to do it yet.
I will be doing that later.

Re: Rings
Glad you folks like it. If anyone ever needs help doing one let me know. My entire system is custom built. I could easily help anyone who wants to add a 4th axis to their existing setup. I will not matter what you have cause I can work with just about any system out there. Mine is using a Gecko 540 ...

Rings
Made a ring as a test to see how detailed I could get with this. I started out with a poplar wooden dowel. Then I created a rough pass then a detail pass. In the modeling tab I used the technique from the tutorials to create a center for the ring to hold it in the chuck and tailstock. This is the ro...

Re: some pictures
I like the horses you did. I too have been trying to make money with my machine. It has gone through a lot of changes. (Mainly improvements) One person told me that their friend would pick up random wood and carve things. He then sold them out the back of his vehicle. Perhaps you can do something si...

Re: Iris, peep hole
I made an iris and set it up with a servo.
Worked pretty good.
This is simple and I have seen similar online.
The one I did had 10 blades.

Too bad we didn't keep the bench ends we had. Would have sent them to you for a custom job.

Re: Cutting into area that ruins the part question
I will see if I can do this soon.
Then I will post my findings.
Things here have been very busy with other projects that has made my time even getting to the machine next to nothing.

Re: Cutting into area that ruins the part question
I will try to decrease the feed speed and plunge rates to 1/2 of their current values and see if that will work.

Re: Cutting into area that ruins the part question
TReischl: Yes I know there is nothing wrong with the file. Vectric already discovered that. What I am having issue is with the machine itself. The mach3 setup or settings I have. There may be something not set right somewhere. I am new and do not fully understand it all. I can post screenshots of my...
