Re: 2d profile toolpath irregular results

I forgot to say I used a 1/8 inch end mill, and this square is 1 inch across. You can see the crisp corner lower left in the picture, all other are severely rounded.

2d profile toolpath irregular results

I know I have seen a post or two (or three) about this, but after searching for this topic by everything that I can think of, I can't find an answer, so I'm going to post about this issue again. I am trying to cut a profile using 2D profile toolpath, under the machine vectors "inside/left". I tried ...

Re: shape cutting misadventure

I recalculated the opening minus half the diameter of the tool, both for roughing and then for finish toolpaths. Preview looks much better.

Re: shape cutting misadventure

the preview shows the thin walls too. So it is actually cutting the way it is showing on the preview.

And, what you tell the CNC to do not always what you want it to do.

Re: shape cutting misadventure

I'll try to post file here.

I checked the tools as well. All tools seem correct.

shape cutting misadventure

I'm getting another unexpected result I'm trying to cut a shape made from a two rail sweep inside a block, with exact dimensions. When I do a roughing cut, the internal diameter is much larger than expected. The shape in supposed to be 2.25" across, but after I cut it with a 12 mm end mill, it is ab...

Re: Online gcode viewer

Well, after more testing, I think that for the moment, for the sake of my sanity, I am abandoning (or at least giving it a rest) 4th axis cutting. It is indeed a random problem that I am having. My latest testing shows that the change in z height happens randomly. I recently made sure to isolate the...

Re: Online gcode viewer

From what I can see from others, the most likely culprit is the UC 100 controller that I’m using. ( I have already replaced it. It works well for regular cutting, as does the machine. I am only getting this problem with 4th axis cutting) . But, I thought that if I can use a G code viewer, I could su...

Re: Online gcode viewer

I have written about my woes in the thread "unexpected results with 4th axis cutting". I am having issues that do not show up in the Aspire preview. I have received many trouble shooting ideas and have checked for issues and or changed toolpath strategies as suggested, but my problem still persists....

Online gcode viewer

Has anyone had good results with an online gcode viewer? I have been trouble shooting some cutting issues, and want ot look at my model in as non aspire settings, to see if the images agree with each other. NC viewer has been recommended, but I cant seem to get it to show anything other than an infi...

Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting

It was the larger one that failed. I started wtih the same model but cropped it differently. What limits could I be reaching? I do not have limits switches on my cnc. I have 20"Z, bed 50 x 30. I have been reading that others have been having z height issues, attributed, they say, the the uc100. I am...

Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting

The post from 4D Thinker explains the reason for 3000 ipm. I limited my x and y to 100 imp in Mach 3, so they would not exceed that, but the a drive spins fast enough. Vendor also approves this. I tried two cuts today. One completely successful, the other one a fail again. I am making sure that my z...

Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting

I wrote a response, but I must not have done something right, because I don't see it in the thread... I do not have a boundary off set. And because I wanted to preserve the aspect ratio of the piece I was cutting (for a specific piece of stock) the piece was only 5" wide in a 6" cylinder. I did try ...

Re: unexpected results with 4th axis cutting

So I recut this same model using an offset strategy. It seems to be cutting fine. I got through the problem areas with no abnormalities noted. HOWEVER, it seems an untenable strategy as it is so slow. Or I need to change a setting on my machine. Estimated time of cut was 2h20 min, and I gave up at 3...
