Re: No Bandsaw - Use CNC to cut wood - Best way?
Thanks for the link Steven! No big bucks here, but there really are a couple items I should have for what I'm doing, such as a table saw and a planer. Other things would be "nice", but not necessary at the moment.

Re: No Bandsaw - Use CNC to cut wood - Best way?
Thanks again for the suggestions. I have previously clamped a straight edge to a piece and cut it with a circular saw. I have also down the same with a small electric jigsaw, which to me is much easier, and safer, to handle. But since I only had one piece of this expensive wood I needed it to go rig...

Re: No Bandsaw - Use CNC to cut wood - Best way?
Thanks all!!! I had to cut it before I got any replies. It was actually only 1/4" I needed to cut off. I just made a narrow rectangle, aligned it, and did a profile cut inside the line. Worked fine. My miter saw only will cut up to a 2x6 until I have to flip the board over, and at 16" long this woul...

No Bandsaw - Use CNC to cut wood - Best way?
I don't have a bandsaw and need to cut off 1/2" lengthwise from a 16" long piece of wood. It is too tall to stand it up on its side so I can't surface it. My other thought is to just do a small rectangle profile cut, but that wastes a lot of time cutting air on 3 sides. I know I'm overlooking someth...

Help Placing Text on Item - Visual not Technical
I'd like some input on this. I'm not really sure what to do with the text. Originally I was going to put the names in the bottom of the bowls, but now with the dimples that isn't an option. It is NOT a 3D model so I can't project the text onto it and carve on the curved surface of the bowls. So I'm ...

Re: V Carve 60 degree TP over 90 degree TP?
Well...that WAS my original idea. I'm going to cut it later today, so we may...or may not...know. If the 90 looks good I'm not going to mess with it. I probably will, because I'm curious, but I'll do it on a scrap sometime. I will post back the outcome at any rate. Thanks for all the...

Re: V Carve 60 degree TP over 90 degree TP?
Try it and see. Walt, you don't even need to actually cut your material for that. I think toolpath simulation is accurate enough to let you see the result on screen. You'll have to slow it down to see the effect of the second cut in real time. That's right. Toolpath Preview is your "try it and see"...

Re: V Carve 60 degree TP over 90 degree TP?
Mike: For this type of sign I generally use an 1/8" 45* for the smaller detail designs and a 1/4" 60* for the lettering. So I would "normally" use a 60* for this. But... 1. It is not going to be painted hence no worry about sanding off detail. 2. There is other text in a bolder, larger font that cal...

Thanks Leo, that's exactly my thinking, but sometimes my thinking isn't all that good. So I just wanted some confirmation I was actually thinking correctly.

Re: V Carve 60 degree TP over 90 degree TP?
Thanks. It's a pretty rounded font so there isn't much in the way of sharp corners.
The only places I'm a little concerned about are the small cross leg of the X and the top part of the T. I think everything else will be fine. The text is an inch tall.

V Carve 60 degree TP over 90 degree TP?
Thinking this through in my head. If I carve a toolpath with a 90* V bit and don't like it, what, if any, issues would arise if I went back and cut it again with a 60* V bit toolpath? Since it is a steeper angle, as opposed to a shallower angle, it seems like it should work. No? If I did the opposit...

Re: Holding down smaller pieces
I hold down 3/4" wood all the time and use Shop Fox clamps. Sometimes have to get creative with some odd shaped pieces but haven't had any issues...yet.

Thanks for this LGM! I've been wanting to make some of these for awhile and just never seem to find time to put it together. It looks fine in VCP 8.517
