Re: V bit cutting parameter question

Thanks for helping clarify TReischi, I never considered that the Final Pass Stepover might occur in the Z direction which would make sense here if that is what it is doing(?). Yes, when all else fails I guess looking at the instructions is a good idea. Out of habit I always go scouring the internet ...

V bit cutting parameter question

Hello, I am trying to understand the appropriate Cutting Parameters (found in VCarve's Tool Database) that would be set for V carving some lettering. Can anyone recommend a video which might explain this? I see in many V carving videos, parameters set similar to the screenshot attached. In this scre...

Re: Rotary machining reference question...

Thanks for posting a response.... To answer your questions, 1. It's not visible in the picture, but I have diagonal lines forming an "X" on both ends of the stock from when the stock was square. I made a point to mount the stock, plates, etc so the orientation was all up and down and side to side if y...

Rotary machining reference question...

This is tricky to describe and maybe this is more of a machine related question but I will try..... I am using VCarve Pro 9.5 to generate g-code to rough mill and then finish mill some wood handrail fittings. I create 2 separate files - 1 for rough machining and the other for the finishing pass. I a...

Re: Mystery Lines

Thank you! - in AutoCAD, setting FACETRES to 10 did the trick precisely.

I have been looking online for the way to remedy this same issue when exporting an stl from SketchUp. Would anyone have a suggestion with this?

Re: Mystery Lines

Thanks everyone for your helpful questions..... Some answers are: Yes, I do see lines after importing the model into VCarve software. So I guess possibly the triangulation resolution I'm exporting from AutoCAD isn't fine enough. I tried setting up the finest modeling resolution in VCarve, but that d...

Mystery Lines

Hello, I've run into this scenario several times and am wondering about it... After setting up a job, I import a model from AutoCAD in stl. format. After setting the tool paths, the machined part appears like the attached image. I'm confused why these lines appear, as the AutoCAD model I created did...

Re: Securing stock for rotary machining

Okay - Brilliant! Thanks for that. I saw that option but was confused on how to do that. I was thrown off by the fact that when I select my whole model in 2D that it turns a different color (very dark) than I usually see when selecting just one line (magenta). After creating an appropriately sized r...

Securing stock for rotary machining

Hello, I'm using VCarve Pro V9.5 and am somewhat new to creating rotary machining tool paths.... I am trying to machine some handrail fittings and have some 1" dowels attached at the ends of the model (see attached screenshot) to allow for proper machining. The issue I have is that in VCarve Pro, in...
