Re: 66 Ford Cobra Pine Car

Looks great! My girls always did a lot of work on their cars, but a few of the Dads would build a car and go crazy on it. We had "cut nights" where the kids could bring their car's to us and we would rough out their blanks, or teach them how to do it themselves. I wish I was as good and fast with th...

Re: Magnate Barley Twist Bit

I have only done barley twists on a manual ornamental mill, using several of the Magnate bits. You might want to look at the manual cutting instructions and see if there is some insight that might help.

Re: Bad poplar board

Poplar has always been a favorite. The biggest reason was for the longest time I had more poplar than I could ever use. The price makes it a favorite wood for 'giveaway' projects, like these for a Church Summer Bible school. I have made many of these benches out of Poplar with engravings on the top,...

Re: Gear design --some remarks.

Add a helical aspect to the gear and you'll get smoother power transmission through all speed ranges.

This was the output side of a 3 Megawatt gas turbine that led to the alternator. Ran 33 years without a problem.

Re: Gear design --some remarks.

I used the Mathias Wandel gear generator from woodgears.ca and imported them into aspire with success. My gears were from 6 inches to 20 inches in diameter.

Re: Best bit for milling corian

V bits work great, end mills seem to work better because no grain to worry about. Can be messy, and needs good dust collector
