Re: Help with Importing .AI file

Looks like exporting as a dxf is the best option to get it into Aspire.

I also found a nifty online tool that will help with nesting parts as well, and it requires the file to be dxf as well...www.e-nesting.com

So, that's an option as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody!

Re: Help with Importing .AI file

Rhino will not export .EPS but it will export .PDF, only I am limited to the standard paper sizes. I have to scale down the geometry to fit on 'paper' and then enlarge it to actual size in Aspire. I guess that's an option, albeit not the best. I'll continue playing with ideas. Thanks for the input, ...

Help with Importing .AI file

Here's the story: I have a new laser engraver/cutter. I use Rhino3d for most of my design and modeling. Rhino doesn't nest 2D geometry without an expensive plugin. I figured I could save my geometry as an .AI file and import them into Aspire and nest them there, however, I get: "Failed to open EPS/A...

Re: keyboard Shortcuts

90% of the time, I'm using Rhinoceros3D, and pan is set to right click instead of the middle mouse button. That's the main one that I use all the time between the two programs, it drives me insane as I'm constantly hitting the wrong buttons. No deal-breaker or anything, just really frustrating. Ther...

Re: keyboard Shortcuts

I wish I could reprogram pan and rotate functions to match my other design programs. I have a Logitech trackball, and I do have some application-specific customization, but it won't let me reprogram the left, right, or middle mouse buttons, just the back and forward buttons I'm able to program a cus...

Re: Tool Path pass depth vs diameter

Is there a wiki somewhere for tool pass depth/tool diameter/feeds & speeds/material? I'm still relatively new to CNC milling, and I think (after reading this thread) that maybe I'm being too conservative with my pass depths. Maybe too aggressive with my RPMs, as well. I have been mostly using our Sh...

Re: I think I found a bug...

If I change the toolpath from offset to raster in Aspire, it works. If I change it back to offset, it gets funky again wanting to plunge along the entire length of the arc. What I'm thinking is, somehow Aspire computes the toolpaths and I'm guessing because the width of the pocket is .45" and the bi...

Re: I think I found a bug...

Do you have a bit in a size where you can do an inside profile toolpath with a spiral ramp instead of a pocket? scott I suppose I could have done an inside profile toolpath and that would have worked. The pocket width in question here was .45". The bit was a 1/4" end mill. See if anyone can recreat...

I think I found a bug...

After trying to create a pocket toolpath, I noticed that it was doing something strange. In the toolpath preview, it showed the tool plunging up and down thousands of times, resulting in a REALLY long estimated time to cut a simple pocket. You can see what I mean in the screenshot attached. This hap...

Multiple Sheet Job set-up question

I am currently working on a job where I have to cut 23 stair balusters that are all of different dimensions. Each individual baluster varies in length +/- 1/8" ... I imported a dxf of all the individual balusters into one Aspire file and I'd like to set up multiple sheets, similar to how the nesting...
