Re: Christmas Tree "Name" Ornaments

Many many thanks for those hints. I’ll have another try (and continue hunting through the manual).
You folk have a merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing some more creations.

Regards,
David.

Christmas Tree "Name" Ornaments

Hi, I'm getting frustrated, so I thought I'd ask for some advice from the brains trust here... I'm trying to make some Christmas Tree ornaments where the person's name remains and most of the surrounding wood has been cut away. I realise this shouldn't be overly difficult, but I've reached an intell...

Re: Carving in Marble Too

When I cut the original, I found the marble very very easy to cut. I cut it dry and it made very little mess. I used a v bit that takes replaceable carbide tips, and when examined under a magnifying glass, they showed no discernible wear (the edge still took shavings off a thumbnail). Next time, I'd...

Re: Family plaque

Thanks from Australia for generously sharing the file. Whilst I'm generally not a huge fan of homilies, this one I liked and I have the perfect person in mind who'll love it. Your version looks to have come out really well. I'll try and post a copy of my version, if / when I get a chance to make it....

Re: Red Oak & Jarrah - Yin Yang lazy Susan

All cuts were done with a 6mm spiral downcut bit. Nothing fancy, cut the shape, glue & clamp, and then begin sanding.

Re: Red Oak & Jarrah - Yin Yang lazy Susan

Sorry for the slow reply. They're approx. 450mm (17") across. Didn't want them too big...

Carving in marble

Ok, in the interests of making something other than sawdust, I thought I'd have a go at engraving marble. Slab of white marble 400x300x15. Bit was a 90 degree carbide bit (my favourite bit - which is one of these http://www.toolstoday.com/p-6015-in-tech-series-insert-v-groove-router-bit.aspx), Max d...

How do I cut semi-circular grooves?

Whilst I'm sure it's simple, can anyone explain a simple way for me to cut a series of semi-circular grooves? I've made a nice box that'll take two decks of poker cards, now I need to make a box that will hold the chips. Each chip is approx 4cm (roughly 1 ½") and I want to have five sets of them sto...

Re: Wooden Clock = first attempt

Thanks Ozymax,
I've got his plans for number 24, but I've nowhere to put it.

Hope you enjoy working on yours - if there's anything I can assist with, feel free to ask.

Wooden Clock = first attempt

My first attempt at one of Brian Law's wooden clocks (Clock 22). No real 'personal touches' added - I just wanted to know whether this was something I was capable of completing. Now I'm torn between re-building this one to add some more solid timber & remove some of the plywood, and making a start o...

Re: YouTube Videos - Show us what you are cutting

My first Wooden Clock (sorry for the poor video).

One of Brian Law's wooden clocks (clock 22). Having proved I can do it, I'll now strip it down and make a few personalised changes...

Great challenge if you're looking for something a little more complex.

Re: Cutting Board

CA glue can be a godsend (and really dangerous). As well as the usual "superglue" uses, you can also get an accelerant (one brand in Aus is "Zip Kicker") which will instantly turn the glue rock hard. You can apply the accelerant to one surface to speed up the reaction, but you can also mix the glue ...
