Grease.....I thought it was a neck tie..

Sounds to me like your test was similar to the same thing as HDU here. Makes a very fine dust that sticks to everything even with dust collection. And the outcome is the same as in your pictures. Needs to have a sealer placed over it then painted or textured and finished.
