"A screw in the center isn't possible"
For sure, I suggested that only as an expedient to track down the source of the problem. Good luck and report back if you figure out the cause.

Re: Pocket depth issue when using multiple bits
It check the surface of the TLMS. Areas that are higher or lower can cause the problem because a larger bit may cover the low spot and a smaller bit may go all the way to the bottom of the low spot. Since it's a switch that is compressed until the circuit is closed the bit will use the same spot ea...

Re: Making a custom Archway moulding
Are you planning to mould separate sections and join them together? I would suggest joining first and tiling the full size piece, or joining as many sections as will fit on your table and having one joint to fit together post-milling. A drawing would help to understand what you are proposing, especi...

Re: Newbie needs helps with machine zero / datum
My machine uses wincnc. I set a "home position" at my spoilboard corner and typically use that as the origin for projects.

Re: Pocket depth issue when using multiple bits
Have you tried checking the actual z-axis positioning accuracy relative to the spoilboard using a taper gauge or feeler gauges? Calibrate the various tools using the ftc function and then compare the actual vs. nominal height. If a given tool's absolute height varies over several up-down movements, ...

Re: Pocket depth issue when using multiple bits
I had been under the impression that upcut bits were cleaner for pockets because they pull chips up instead of pushing them down into the wood which I thought caused tool marks in the wood (swirls). Downcut bits leave a cleaner pocket margin. They do not clear chips as well so tend to cut hotter if...

Re: fingerpull vectors
Tex, I did have the start points correctly located. The problem was in the animated view. I am not sure what fixed it, but after making the project size smaller the tool could be seen travelling in the correct paths on each vector. I had not been aware of the green and blue vertical plunge lines in ...

Re: fingerpull vectors
adze,
Thanks for your response. My concern is that the animated preview showed the tool starting and ending in the radiused corners of most of the vectors. I will try running the toolpath on scrap material to see what actually happens.

fingerpull vectors
I want to use a custom bit like a t-slot cutter to machine a fingerpull in a set of veneered panels. The bit will enter from the side of the panels and due to the nature of my router and the size of the bit I want to make the cut in relatively small passes. I did not enter a profile bit but used the...

Re: moulding toolpath error message
I downloaded v. 9.518. Had the same problem both with the profile in question and a similar one drawn in v. 9.015.
After tracing the original curve to produce a new version I was able to generate a moulding profile with a clearance tool and boundary offset. Still baffled but now it works.

Re: moulding toolpath error message
It appears that the error message is triggered by setting a machining allowance in the clearing toolpath. It's baffling because I have done a similar profile with a clearance toolpath and machining allowance recently. Must be something else different that I am not seeing. I will update to the latest...

Re: moulding toolpath error message
Sorry, here's the correct file. The first one you saw had the entire moulding shape including back bevels which I drew in the office, then I did further work on the shop computer, isolating the profile and adding a drive rail. I brought the file back to the office and was able to generate a clearanc...

moulding toolpath error message
I am trying to create a moulding toolpath with a straight drive rail and a simple crown profile. I am getting the message " toolpath not created- check there is enough space to fit entire profile across rail contour w/o overlapping itself". I have checked the profile for overlaps using the vector ch...
