Re: Walking Sticks for Friends

Harden after carving. The carving is what you are protecting. Redwood and Cedar are strong enough to make walking sticks and both are light weight. The resin based hardener soaks in about 1/8" and makes the wood details more durable but not brittle. Hardener is Minwax I purchase online from Paint Su...

Vertical clearance is a bit over 14'. Over time it the sag reached nearly a foot. It was clear it wa...

Re: Walking Sticks for Friends

Thanks for posting your pictures. Lots of creative ideas too. You can also use lighter weight wood such as cedar, Douglas Fir, Redwood, etc. A bunch of mine were made from 4x4x8' cedar from Home Depot..... 4 complete sticks from each one. Just look for straight grain without knots. I soak these soft...

Re: Flourish with basket weave

Tex, since the basics are all the same the only change is the carved area. Depending on the complexity and number of objects, computer time is typically less than 2-hours for animals and birds, less than an hour each for the basket weave and flourish. The tricky part is the wrap joint alignment. Wha...

Re: Monthly Project

Second reply, yes there are even more colors, all of which we see all around us depending on the time of year and the variety.
We have wine grapes on the south and apples on the north of our house.
Thanks for all the comments.

Re: Monthly Project

Leo,
The top finish is rustoleum spray top coat which is gloss and contains UV so the acrylic paint won't fade.
The texture of the wood 'softens' the gloss in the background making the grapes stand out.
