Re: Vectric Certification Program/Test

I've often been called the Jack-of-all Trades, Master of None. I doubt in my remaining years [77 next month] that I will ever master all of Aspire/V-carve, but I do like to try just about everything I can. The important thing on this forum is all the good folks out there that are willing to he...

Re: Wrapped carvings without a line

Here is a photo of the layout of the basket weave walking stick.
Weave is extended beyond the part edge with matching edges at the top and bottom vectors.

Wrapped carvings without a line

Requests at the 2019 UGM Denver for the instructions on how to make a wrapped carved walking stick or other similar items without a line along the ends of the wrap.

Even though PDF was posted in 2014, the technicque is still relevant.

Re: Simple Shingled Roof Texture

Sometimes its about learning and practice rather then the most efficient method.
The siding and roof were made using the two rail sweep to make the shape
Array copy
Texture shape cut
Then the parts were cut to shape

Re: Design and Make Carving help

Non porous woods such as cherry, redwood, and red gum have less frizzies
3-flute spiral bits cut cleaner than straight bits
Solid carbide bits are best but more expensive

Re: Exporting for Print or laser

It may not be the easiest or best way but I use Coreldraw, smart tool fill to fill in between the lines.
Since the default is for the lines to be hairline I must change them to a larger line width or the laser will cut them out.
I can use the Coreldraw file to print directly on my laser.

Re: 45 degree hole

Another way would be to put a 45 degree block under the part if you have a bit long enough to cut all the way thru. The length of the cut will be thickness of the material x 1.1414 + the diameter of the hole + zed.

Re: 45 degree V groove bits--custom fabrication?

Try https://www.magnate.net/SearchResults.asp?Cat=650118
I prefer the 3-flute bits, they give a smoother cut.
For $300 you can buy about 15 of the carbide cutters.

Re: Nesting

I use nesting every day. The only caution is when you copy nested parts that allow parts inside parts. When using array copy if any of the parts have parts inside, when you do the array then nest the entire group you will get duplicate parts inside original nested parts. Solution: nest the first set...
