Re: 2d view question

This has been an interesting discussion. As with everything in Aspire, there are generally at least 3 ways to accomplish a task. Choose the method you like! I do think the approach using a 2-rail sweep is how I would go, for the following reasons: 1. I don't like to mess around with working post-pr...

Steven, give this one a try.... 2D View Question - Moulding.crv3d I circled the drive rail in RED it's only .005" high. Image 342.png Thanks John Ill give this a try.. This has become more complicated than I thought lol The swapping of the axis code may be a start Ill just swap the wiring around th...

Re: 2d view question

copylathe.jpg Maybe it would be better to explain why I want to do what I’m asking. I have made my own wood lathe spindle copy attachment. (see picture please) It only uses the Z + X axis, its not a rotary machine as I’m using the existing DC motor to turn the blanks. So - to cut out a spindle leg ...

Re: 2d view question

Hi yes I need to explain it a bit better sorry : imaging you have a 3d carving of a face on a board, I just want to carve one of the vectors along the Y or X + the 3d heights on the Z . In other words I want to draw a single vector of various heights and curves etc (the Z), and project it along the ...

Thanks highpockets, I looked at the fluting and again couldn't work out how to bring a shaped vector I have drawn in Auto cad to control the Z height along the Y cut

2d view question

Hi I want to put a single vector along the Y axis and use the same vector to control the varying depth of Z but I cant work out how to flip the 2d drawing so I can do this. Could anyone help ?

Re: Wood lathe turning

I believe you are conflating a number of actions that can be done between centers and arriving at a process that does not actually exist. For example, the lathe shown in the video you posted. That spindle is turned by a 3 phase motor at 2K+ rpm and operates similar to your copy lathe with the excep...

Re: Wood lathe turning

I am not sure I understand your question, but as a general rule, nothing related to 3D or rotary wrapped applies to a lathe, only to a rotary 4th axis. In your video its says "First - Z-Level rotary rough". And it looks like the lathe is spinning faster than a A-Axis/ Rotary. Plus the wood spindle ...

Re: Wood lathe turning

Gary, will the Z-Level rotary rough, work without a 4th axis, just the lathe spinning normally ? Eventually I want to do what you did by putting a timing pulley setup n the shaft, but I have money constraints atm and just want to do a large set of spindle legs for a project.

Re: Wood lathe turning

IslaWW thanks for the reply , in fact it was your machine that inspired me to look at doing this :) I'll look into simple vector cutting.

Wood lathe turning

Hi folks,

I'm thinking of converting my wood lathe copy attachment to turn down rough logs to spindle blanks. The attachment only has an X & Y axis. Y being the in / out cut and x side to side. Can a tool path be created in the wrap gadget only to use the 2 axis's ?
