Re: CNC Shark pro-- what post processor to use

I saved and ran with;
cnc shark USB 3d contour (inch)

The shark didn't seem to have any issue with this post processor.
I guess I'll run a test with the 'arc' processor and see if there is any problem with it.

Thank you

Re: Finsih cut - cutting surface plane

Thank you both for your replies. I didn't think this was able to be done,.. but I kept fighting against it. Yes,... I finally stumbled on the machining margins. Not sure why I had it set to zero (shrug) Only problem I have currently is I can't run the -cut out- function.. If I do then it not only cu...

Finsih cut - cutting surface plane

Hi,.. Please see attached image. I'm having trouble getting Cut3D to NOT cut the planar surface as shown in the image. The planar surface is indeed planar/ It doesn't have any anomolies like a polygon sticking up higher or lower. The second image shows if I bring in the model without the 'plane' tha...

Re: A way to undercut ??

Thank you Mike !

I'm just trying to think all of this through before I drop blade.

It's nice to have others to throw questions at !

Thank you again.

Re: A way to undercut ??

Mike you are absolutely correct regarding re-sizing. (It seems like the simple solution until you realize scale is not the same as deflating.) And yes,.. overcutting would be a better description. So,.. if I have you correct; If I set up roughing parameters telling it I am using 1/8 inch ball nose.....

Re: Can I skip roughing ?

Does anyone know where I can come upon some 1/4" ball nose end mills with 2 inch flute length ?

**Yeah,.. I'm googled knee deep,.. but still looking.

Thank you Leo and Isla for your input.

Re: Cant set depth below surface

Thank you Leo for your time and advice.

It's been awhile since I've run cut3d. I'm trying to run an industrial vacuum through the cobwebs that have formed in my head over that time.

Happily, I'm down to the finer layer of dust which was beneath the cobwebs.

Again, Thank you for your time

Re: Cant set depth below surface

Sorry,... Disregard question(s)

I'm not visualizing this correctly.

What I thought made sense to try does not make sense at all. (Material would still be present when setting second cut)

Apology for your time

Cant set depth below surface

I took a model and split it into 2 inch slices. I opened one of the slices and set it to be sliced into 1 inch slices. I opened up one of the one inch slices (the top piece) and ran the roughing tool paths etc.. I opened up the second 1 inch file and set the material thickness to 2 inches. I want th...

Can I skip roughing ?

If I am cutting foam material with a ball nose that has 1 inch of cutting length... Can I avoid the roughing cut and just do finish cut ? Would I change the plunge rate to be lower ? Or would this simply mangle the piece ? I will be cutting a total of 2 inches deep. Would I instead break the 2 inch ...

Editing slices

Does anyone have a way to edit slices that cut3d makes ?

Sure wish there was an 'export' option.

Does Aspire have this ability ?

Thank you

A way to undercut ??

Does anyone have a way to undercut a model ? Cut3d doesn't allow a negative machining allowance. I would love to be able to rough-cut my models by a negative .125. (I then wish to coat this form with plaster and run the final finishing pass on it) I haven't yet come up with a solution that is plausi...

Difference between rough & finish material

How much material does the 'rough' cut leave behind for the 'finish' pass to remove?

Is there a way this is calculated or is it the same regardless of what tools you are using ?

Typically I use 1/4 ball nose for rough and 1/8 for finish pass.

Thank you
