Re: divots at bottom of 3d model
I saw this on a piece I was doing to. As I watched it cutting a deep pocket, I noticed that as it came "out" of the cut to head back to the "entry point", not only was it coming out while in contact with the wall of the pocket, but the action was not "move all the way up to safe height, and then whe...

Re: PC Boards
Nick I have used PhotoVCarve with a home-brew 1.8W laser attachment to ablate (burn off) white spray paint as an etch mask, and then etch using Muriatic (hydrochloric) acid and hydrogen peroxide. They came out great, with about 0.004" (0.1mm) minimum spacing between the copper areas remaining. I use...

Re: Cut2D Desktop Startup
Very Cool! Glad it was in there somewhere....sometimes all it takes is some poking around to find those hidden settings we all know are there somewhere. I never did understand why companies wouldn't publish the structure and meaning of their registry entries. They play as much a role in config of th...

Re: Cut2D Desktop Startup
Jim: Have you checked the Windows registry? Vectric stores a lot of data in there, like all applications did way-back-when. I don't have Cut2D, instead I have the 3D edition. But, it looks like it might be using a registry key named NewModelInMM, which appears to be either 1 or 0. It's a bit unclear...

Re: How I screwed up a cut and how I fixed my screw-up
Gosh I know that feeling all too well. The other day I had to make 3 small and 2 large brackets and 5 plates that bolt to them. So I cut the five plates and finished them. Then I spotted the holes in the bracket stock pieces, drilled and tapped them at the drill press, and....(wait for it....)....th...

Re: No Object Model in downloaded SDK?
Got it, thanks....why winturds search of the entire drive for PDF files couldn't find it, I'll never know. I keep my other Vectric data (e.g., Post files) in a different location than the C: drive, and so was thrown by it not putting it there with the rest of the pre-installed gadgets. Thanks, Ardian!

Yeah, it's there, just in a confusing place. Check the attached...it's in the tool-type drop down .

Re: routing brass
Have you checked out the CNCCookbook GWizard calculator? They have very good coverage of different metal types. Any idea which kind of brass it is? There are a few different varieties. Even if you consider C36000 with an H01 versus H02 temper, the hardness varies considerably Brasses.JPG SFMs for br...

Re: cutting aluminum!!
What kind of machine are you using? Would need to know whether it's a small cheap machine, or a huge honking machine? Are you cutting 6061-t6(51)? Or some other aluminum alloy? Also, what's your spindle/router HP, min/max RPM and what shank sizes can it hold? Also, what kind of finish are you lookin...

No Object Model in downloaded SDK?
Hellllooooooo! I've downloaded the SDK from the main site, and have installed it into my system that has vCarve 8.0. For the life of me I can find no PDF files giving any reference material for the objects model. What's going on here? Does it require I have the v7.x installed too? There's an Aspire ...

Re: Cheers and Jeers
Adrian, I'm not trying to solve a problem you don't have on a machine you do, or somehow find a feature in control-panel software (Mach) that I don't have because it doesn't work with the machine I do have. One nice thing about living in Boeing-town (Seattle) is that there are more than a few machin...

Re: Cheers and Jeers
Slows down in a corner? The G02 are arcs, done at normal feed rate. You're correct it does not do TEA (total engagement angle) optimization.
In other cases where it slows down in those corners, it's because it's not a true arc, but a series of short line segments.

(someone had also mentioned skinning...in my case, that back side also has machining and engraving on it, so the problem would still be the same. Tabs were a hoped-for pipe dream for minimizing post-machining work while not having the several parts come loose. Oh well, thanks everyone for giving me ...

Re: Cheers and Jeers
I have not found any reference to multiple stored feed rates that a controller would select among. Instead, there is one F-address, and that rate is used to determine the steps/time of the move in 3-space. You are correct that any downward--and especially vertical--motion should be done at the plun...

Re: Cheers and Jeers
Yes, exactly...which is why I tried the 3D tabs...which failed WORSE because it wasn't slowing the bit down. That action broke the tip off a carbide cutter, and the resulting surface was even worse. I have been able to slow down the 2D ones to minimize the effect, but wanted a smaller tab to have to...
