Re: Use of zero plane

Thanks dealguy11. That is a technique I use regularly to clean up the “whiskers” often left around the edges of a model. What I am trying to do is reduce the height of the model by cutting away the model’s high points. Think of it as a cone ten inches high that I want to slice off the top two inches...

Re: Use of zero plane

Thanks again. Now I have a name for what I am seeking, a “cutting plane”. That will make my searches more efficient. Actually this was created in Aspire. I may just recreate it altering the components as I go. Though I have solved the problem by using slices, I still would like to find a way to appl...

Re: Use of zero plane

Thanks adze_cnc I will search again. From what my searches have turned up, trimming X or Y is very straightforward. I just cannot seem to get the Z trimmed. I can take my model, place it in 2D, draw vectors and trim easily enough. What I am trying to do is trim in the Z direction - not simply change...

Use of zero plane

This cannot be a hard as I am making it. I have a model with some stray points sticking up that got there in the process of creating the model. I want to put a plane across the top and simply delete everything that sticks up above the plane. I assume I do it with a zero plane. How do I get the zero ...

Re: Two-sided model question

How about a zero plane? In "normal" two sided machining like the chess piece tutorial you put in a zero plane and I think a negative distance to get the bit to go beyond the "center" to remove the cusp. Would a zero plane with a positive distance not cut all the way through??? Excellent idea. Don’t...

Re: Two-sided model question

Take a look at this video on two-sided machining. It shows how to use manual tabs on two-sided projects. :::: SNIP :::: I used manual tabs in an earlier attempt to solve the issue, but did not expand them to fill the entire area. On the facebook group someone suggested one tab encompassing the enti...

Two-sided model question

I have what I hope is a simple question, with a simple answer. After which I will slap my forehead and say, “Of course! Why didn’t I think of that?” I have a two-sided model that carves exactly as I want, and then, of course, I changed what I want. Is there a way to add an uncarved section between t...

Re: Asymmetric Bowls

Just came across this. Very nice work. I have done something similar for a customer who wanted a seashell engagement ring box. I must admit that I cut through on the first draft, but eventually worked out the offsets to get consistent wall thickness.

Re: Open book model with Amazing Grace

Excellent. Did you project the music onto the model in Vectric and then save out the image to get the appearance of it following the uneven pages?

Denver Question

There was a vendor/demonstrator of a laser engraver at the Denver show - in the corner near the Donek dragknife display. I am ABSOLUTELY sure I got his card (or maybe not), but in any case I cannot find it and have a friend who is interested in a low-power, relatively inexpensive laser. Can anyone l...

Re: We’re coming to DENVER! Save the date & book your place!

Now that we have had a week for the “gee-whiz” to settle and the star-struck “I talked with ( fill in your favorite Vectric stars here )!!” to fade a bit, I just want to say that this was an excellent experience, and one I will definitely repeat. A rousing THANK YOU to all who had a hand in making ...

Re: Create a new Tool Type

One example of a tool type that is not available is a drag knife. While I agree that the tool type is merely eye candy and not for use by the machine, I see nothing wrong with correct/complete eye candy. So, I too would like to be able to create a new tool type - "Drag Knife".

Nice wrk John. I agree with SCW - a video (or a blog entry) on how it was done would be great.
