Re: Cost of a project

Pricing custom work is tough. This is a want, not a need, and so people are less willing to part with their hard earned cash. Not only that, but with the internet comes all of the hobby guys who do it for peanuts and then post those prices on places like Etsy. The above comments are exactly why afte...

Re: Stacked Text Issue

2 problems that I see off the bat: 1. You're not using the same tool for both the upper and lower V-carve tool paths. 2. Don't set different start depths for the toolpaths. For instance, you have the first one starting at 0 and a cut depth of 0.1. The second should start at 0 with a cut depth of 0.2...

Re: I still make mistakes

I know the feeling. I once 'leveled' the steel bracket for the end bump stops on my CNC. That was a $350 whoopsie.

Re: Blooming Lotus

I think this looks lovely! Thank you for sharing this! Would you care to share the process? I would love to try something like this :D Thank you, Beki I can do that for sure, it isn't difficult by any means. For this project I first V-carved a piece of maple, hollowing out some pockets for the lotu...

Blooming Lotus

I love doing epoxy inlays. Sure, it may be a fad right now, but they can still look pretty sweet.

The 'Prairie Sage Co.' is her company logo. I was provided with the file, not sure what the font is.

The other is called 'Marthin Slant'

Sometimes you just have to go back to basics.

I haven't fired up my CNC in a long while, due to a new career path I've taken. One of my clients asked if I could make her a couple of small signs for her business, and I couldn't say no. I started thinking up all the complicated ways I could make these signs, but due to time constraints I busted i...

Re: Cutting Color Core with a V-Bit

Fuzzies in plastic seem to be about what side of the bit is cutting. On a v-carve, one side is always going into the material and the other is always going out and one of those sides has fuzzies. One way to address that is to run the path twice, the second time in the opposite direction to the firs...

Re: Cutting Color Core with a V-Bit

The only way I've managed to get rid of most of the fuzzies on HDPE is to use a flat bottom engraving bit. Or if possible, use a small end-mill for a clearance toolpath and then the V-bit to touch-up. I believe the issue stems mostly from the fact that a v-bit comes to a point. If you even have a sl...

Re: Cribbage players

Seems to be quite popular up here in Alberta, Canada. And not just with the older generations. My in-laws used to billet Junior A hockey players (15-19 year olds), and cribbage is a huge past time for them. Mainly because it's easy to play on long bus rides between game locations I guess. I've made ...

Re: Discrepancy with preview vs reality

It appears to me that the finished product matches your vectors, and so it cut as it should have? In the preview, the detail is too small for the 'pixels' to accurately depict, and so it looks like it is fading away. You may be able to increase the resolution of the preview (At the top, under Toolpa...

Mach 4 will do photos I'm told. I'm in the process of porting my machine over to it. Bit of a learning curve though.

We got this working. Was just missing one itty bitty check box in the ESS config page.
