Re: Good flower pedal modeling tutorial?

Thank you Adrian, Michael, James and Charlie, Just to be clear - I'm not looking for "easy" - I love the practice (and need a lot of it)! Just curious how others would tackle this same model... You have all given me great direction and some different ideas that I had not thought of. Thanks again for...

Good flower pedal modeling tutorial?

I am looking for a good flower pedal (rose, sunflower, etc) modeling tutorial. I have brought a PNG image in as a component to use as a texture and started making components from vectors I created around the pedals themselves. Not sure if I am on the right track or if there is an easier way. I did q...

Rest machine toolpath with litho?

Curious is anyone is using a rest machine toolpath on a litho... I am cutting a fairly detailed photograph and want to rough it with a 1/4", finish with 1/8" then rest machine the tight areas with a 1/16". I am having an issue getting my head wrapped around all of the "reverse" cutting (subtracting ...

Re: Lithophane boundary vector

Sorry to blow up my own post.... Got it. For some reason the preview was not updating when resetting and then viewing toolpaths. I did a -.125" offset for the roughing (radius of my .25" tool) and 0" offset for the finishing, saved it, closed the software, reopened the software and viewed the previe...

Re: Lithophane boundary vector

James, So after thinking about this for a bit... It would make sense to do a vector offset of .125 for the roughing path and since I am using a .0625" ball nose for the finish path, I really wouldn't need an offset.... Hmmmmm. What gets me is that I have never had to do it in the past and I typicall...

Re: Lithophane boundary vector

[quote="JamesB"] You will need to offset the boundary inwards by the tool radius to account for this. Thank you James. I did try a vector offset with -.125" witch is the radius of my .25 bit" thinking that if I used a positive number it would cut past the vector. Am I wrong in thinking this way? mty...

Re: Lithophane boundary vector

Here are some screen shots and preview images. The toolpaths look like exactly how it cuts and appears in the preview (I have not cut the paths on the machine yet). I do have some solid surface material here but only 1/2". I need to find a good source for 1/4" to do more lithos. I will also say that...

Lithophane boundary vector

Hello All, I'm pulling my hair out because i'm missing something when designing and toolpathing a lithophane and for the life of me (and lack of sleep) I can't put my finger on it! I have a pic that I imported, made a component, made a boundary vector - everything looks good. When I create my roughi...
