John, If we had done the signs, the Black cat would have been $400 and the Coffee Bean would have been $550, the customer would have to pull the permits and install them. We have found that clear finish on wood does not last outdoors in the sun so we would have used painted signfoam. The steel hardw...

John, we are also in NY state (the land of taxes) and we started out about the same, making wood signs then wondering how to sell them. We were a little ahead of the curve having built our first router in 1994. All my friends thought we should sell at craft fairs. Well, we sold a few house signs for...

The HDU manufacturers will send free sample kits to get you hooked. Once you use signfoam you will forget about gluing up wood blanks.

Thanks, The sign is signfoam with one shot paint and smalts. The 3D part was carved separately out of signfoam then goldleafed and attached with West system epoxy.

Well you certainly are winning the HP race.

I am doing my best to keep file sizes down to a reasonable level.

My boy Web is making complex models with clay tools, he keeps going to finer resolution and it slows down the system. It is not difficult to get a 30 meg file. Having a 2 sec delay on each rotation is very annoying. I just bought a faster workstation with a really fast video card and clay tools look...

It also requires a graphics workstation with open GL. I had to put a dual xeon system using surplus parts from the local computer waste recycler.

Sensable claytools

I just tried the 3D input device with clay tools software. You can feel the surface of the 3D object you are creating. I am having a ball making goofy 3D models.

Anyone else use claytools?

Hi Tony, We use Flashcut or inch G-code. I was thinking that the tool editing software has a nice description of the tool in the title e.g. (V-Bit 110 deg 1.25"). I would like to see that inserted as a comment right after the (File created by VCarve Wizard) title. That way I could make sure I have t...

I can't wait to upgrade! I think I'll get Cut3D at the same time, we tried the demo and side 1 worked fine. There was a slight problem when side 2 cut through and we lost vacuum, I guess clamps are the way to go! I would really like to see the G-code post processor to insert a comment including the ...

Thanks for the nice words.

I used the material for outdoor signs a few years ago and still had some scraps kicking around the shop.
