Re: Next Wave Small Parts Clamp

I would be concerned that an upcut bit would pull on the stock, lifting it off the table. -- I've had it happen to me. Maybe some sandpaper on the mating surfaces would/could prevent the lift. If the cam is a good design so it doesn't pop loose easily, then I wouldn't think the stress of cutting wou...

"A slang-term used in British English to describe something as "first class" or "absolutely genuine"....."

Thank you for the definition. I'm sure most of us Yanks wouldn't have a clue what it means.

Re: Cracked Earth bowl

Thank you all for the kind comments. I've made a second bowl out of Lyptus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyptus , a hybrid that looks like Mahogany. There was a lot of tearout in the roughing pass, so I stopped and switched to a 1/4" down-cut end mill -- it helped a little. Didn't add color to the "...

Cracked Earth bowl

Vectric and VCarve Pro are just the best! I saw this hand turned bowl on Instructables https://www.instructables.com/id/Cracked-Clay-Embellishment/ and it looked really cool. But I can't turn, nor carve; so I thought, "maybe I can make it on the CNC." :-) Low and behold, I find Beki's video on using...

Re: Need help deciding

One more yes for #2.
Plus I'd agree with using a script font for the poem.

It looks like the Angel is not centered between the reindeer?

Re: Celtic designs painted

Nicely done. Do you paint the recessed design by hand? Your design would lend itself to a vinyl mask (overlay) and spray paint if you do several. I have a couple of coasters I'd like to make (3-1/2" Diameter) for Xmas, but there's a lot of detail, and I haven't figured out how to color the recesses ...

Re: Frankenswitch instructions and files.

Like Highpockets, I've had these files since last year. Finally got them made.

Still thinking about painting the trestles and back plates to look like metal.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Re: Owl pen holder

Nice. Are the designs yours or from the web? If from the web, I know my grandson would like the steam engine if you could point me in the right direction. I have access to a laser at our local SLO MakerSpace and it gets a lot of use. To help eliminate the soot build up on the bottom of my cuts, I us...

Re: Error importing DXF

I recently got this error when opening (vs importing) dxf files that I had created after importing SolidWorks files into OnShape and then exporting a "face" (2D) as a dxf (Autocad 14??). As you said, clicking to continue opening the dxf worked fine. The original designer of these files had created d...

Re: Balancing/area gadget

Silly question.. after unzipping the gadget how do you import or install it into V Carve 8.5?

Oh, don't say that. I'm looking for the same answer.

Down Draft sanding table

Don't know if y'all are familiar with http://www.Instructables.com They have tons of how-to's for most anything. I recently uploaded how I made a downdraft sanding table. I used our SLOMakerspace Vcarve and CNC for the tricky bits like the top and the funnel (concentrator?) Here's the link if you wa...

Re: 8.5 Help! error messages

Would it help to save the tool path to a file rather than sending directly to the machine and then open that file with your CNC controller software?
I use Mach-3 and that's the only way I know how to upload g-code. -- Real CNCs may be different. ;-)

Re: Water Cooled Spindle

I've read elsewhere (?) that using antifreeze can be detrimental to the spindle. We (slomakerspace.com) use a five gallon bucket with lid and a pond pump. Our hose lines are overkill (1/2" or 5/8" diam). The spindle's coolant fittings are barely 1/4" and the openings are probably in the area of 1/8"...
