Re: Memory Box
Yes slot in the base for the sides is 3/16” deep if I remember correctly. On the end of the sides that you can see, I lightly round them on a sander to match the radius of the 1/4” bit used to make the slot so you don’t see a gap. Thanks to all for the nice comments.

Memory Box
Was asked to make a box to hold some 4x6” photos with a Celtic weave. Used the weave tool in Aspire and customer really likes how it turned out. Walnut with a shellac finish, box just sets on top with a rabbet to position it. C649D5B2-1EDA-4A24-8BA1-067D1F7CD30A.jpeg 14CDA9DD-4670-4ABA-BC0B-CBB0B4D2...

Wooden Stem Wine Glass
The thread related to making a tapered octagon on the rotary helped me figure out how to get started on a wood stem for a wine glass, thanks Randall for the explanation! Here's my first try using the rotary to cut these, I used two different scraps of wood, the lighter one is mulberry and the darker...

Re: size of a round blank problem/error
I believe you should enter 4.75” for the diameter in the job setup and 5” inch for the blank in the rounding toolpath gadget. You might get some air cutting but should end up with the 4.75” blank. Hope this is helpful.

Re: Create Rounding Toolpath
User error. I had the incorrect axis orientation selected in the job setup so the length was actually the circumference of the diameter. Seems to be working fine now.

Create Rounding Toolpath
I'm trying to use the Create Rounding Toolpath in Aspire 9.5 and having odd results. I've input info for a 3.5" square blank to get a 3" diameter blank. The cylinder is 4" long. When I run the toolpath, only 3 of the corners are being rounded and it is over 8" long instead of 4". In the final screen...

Re: Tapered Octagon
Thanks Euan for the tip, will be careful and might modify the design a bit. While I’m trying to figure out how to actually use my rotary, I decided to 3D print a modified version of the stem from some wood filament. Showed me a couple of areas I may want to tweak in the final version so a fun protot...

Re: Tapered Octagon
Thanks Randall for this tutorial. I'm wanting to try and make some wooden wine glass stems for a friend who wants some custom wine glasses for a wedding gift. I'll engrave the glasses with my laser as well. The first picture is the design I came up with using a design package to show my friend the i...

Re: Z-0
Once you have your material located and secured to the bed of your CNC, are you setting your X0Y0 in the controller to match the point you set when you designed the project? The two need to match to get predictable results. Sorry if I misunderstood what you are asking. You mentioned you were settin...

Re: Learning PVC.. How am I doing?
Hi Dave. That is the preview, I just did not use any fill color. I set the depth to .05 only to cut down on the amount of sanding that needs to be done. dah79: That looks really nice. I’m not seeing the actual preview from PVC in your original post, maybe I’m not understanding? After you do the cal...

Re: Learning PVC.. How am I doing?
Do you have a photo of the preview from PVC? This preview picture is with 8% spacing and a 1/16" Ball Nose bit, depth of cut at .05? Trying to understand the starting point before it was sanded/finished. Not sure I'll have a better idea but thought I'd ask. Good luck!

Re: Vbits and Text Examples
The good news is you don’t have to own a bit to try it out using the preview function. If you haven’t done so already, define a few Vbits in your tool database and see how they look on any font you have installed. Make a test project with fonts sized 7-10 mm and the toolpath preview will give all yo...

Re: Soap Trivet & Nesting Question
Thanks. Took me a minute to get my brain around this but basically, you're using two different layers as the top and bottom of the material rather than doing the project as two-sided in Aspire. I tried this and all lines up but in the case of the soap trivet, the diagonal vectors need to be in the o...
