Re: Model Carving too deep
I'm experiencing the same issue with a project I'm working on. Tried different levels as well as different base heights for the various 3d models that make up the project. But when it comes to creating the toolpath it groups all the models to same height as the model that has the greatest height. I'...

Could you explain in bit more detail your finishing process. I really like the effect it creates.

Re: Topographic maps?
There is quite a bit of information on 3d topo maps in this forum if you do a search. Many different ways to import the information into Aspire to create the maps. I think one of the easiest methods is to use the Big Topo software by Paul Rowntree. Again lots of information on Big Topo on the forum....

3D map Yukon
With the cold spell we've been having over the past few days (-47c). I had a chance to finish off a 3d mapping project that I've been working on. I love exploring the Yukon Southern Lakes region, especially the waterways. So I decided to make myself a 3d map of the area that I could hang on the wall...

Bi-fold door
Over the past few years I've been building a series of custom bi-fold doors for our closets. I finally finished the last door and will be installing it shortly. The doors are made of Sitka spruce for the frames and red cedar for the panels with a oil finish that darkens the wood over time. Each door...

Re: Topographic map - work in progress
Very nice. I really enjoy making topographic maps myself. I do find that I have probably just as much fum finding new methods of developing the 3d models from the imagery that is available from a variety of agencies. Just wish the level of resolution for the imagery was higher for the Arctic and Ant...

Re: Bi-fold door
The finishing is a lot of work with a fine chisel and 180 grit sandpaper before applying the finish. Then 4 coats of Min Wax fast drying polyurethane and sanding with 220 grit between coats.

Bi-fold door
I've been slowly replacing the bi-fold closest doors in our house with custom ones that I design and build. This is the fourth one that I've completed. The frame is Sika spruce from Haines Alaska and the carved panels are clear red cedar from Terrace B.C. Each door has a different wildlife design on...

I've a Shopbot PRTstandard and have been thinking of doing the same thing. I'll have to give Gary PM and see what he recommends.

Re: Bathymetric Map Making
I have created a map for my cottage lake with 4 different tool paths (pockets) each having a different depth. This is ok, but how can I make one tool path that does more of a smooth transition between the depths? Any ideas would be appreciated. If a bathymetric DEM file is available for that lake, ...

Window trim
After a recent renovation in our bathroom, we ended up with window in a position that needed a unique solution to putting trim around it. The following pictures depict the solution I came up with. The trim is Sitka spruce from Haines Alaska. I got the inspiration for the scenes from an Aspire tutori...

Re: 3d Maps new app. Touch Terrain
The SRTM data does not cover North of 60 but the GMTEP as well as the ETOPOI does. So for large scale maps the app. it is useful. For higher detail, I still need to use another method to create the maps from DEM files. The thing I found useful in the this app is the sizable selection box. Also if yo...

3d Maps new app. Touch Terrain
I came across this program put together by some people at Iowa State University that creates 3d printable terrain models. Though it is designed for 3d printers, the STL file it produces can be imported in to Aspire.
