Re: Puzzle Joint Generator

You need to specify a file name with the express extension ".dxf". If you just give it a name without extension it will save it as such and Aspire will not list as a drawing file. This is a bit unusual since most programs will add the extension automatically in the file dialog but my software devel...

Re: Puzzle Joint Generator

This looks like such a great program. I wish I had your talent! Yesterday I downloaded the file. Unzipped and ran as I expected it to. Had a play with various settings and saved a DXF file. It was here that it all went wrong for me. The first thing I noticed was that the files icon was a plain icon,...

Re: Compact metal plate engraver

Do a Google search for "Dot peen marking machine".
Looks like you can get many types of desk top machines from multiple suppliers, at a decent price.
There are also portable machines available.

Could you use the Spiral gadget to create a profile path that removes all the material in one pass and
apply a ramped plunge also?

Re: Bit slipped

Am I missing something here?
Why couldn't you just reset the cutter, maybe a whisker lower and simply start the program again.
You said you were willing to start again in another piece of timber, so why waste that piece?

Re: Acrylic edge finishing - Silvo

My curiosity got the better of me, so I did some searching around... It’s called a PCD Polishing Bit. It has diamonds embedded. I don’t know (and couldn’t find) what the acronym “PCD” stands for. Maybe P for “polishing”, C for “carbide” and D for “diamonds”? PCD = Poly Crystalline Diamond. I've nev...

Re: Ribbon Box

I’m happy you found the ribbon box and decided to try one. I really like the way you fit the lid with a flange. The detail inside is really special to the recipient. I would like to see how you cut the lid. It is a great upgrade. The lid flange was nothing too fancy. I simply took the outer profile...

Re: Ribbon Box

zaxis, thankyou for sharing your idea for this ribbon box.
I made a version of it for a friends 18th birthday.
She absolutely loves it.
Thanks so much for the fantastic idea!

Re: Surrounding a game of CHESS

Big C, your chess board is looking fantastic! I really love your choice of chess pieces also, but a word of caution. Ever since I was a little boy, I'm in my mid 50's, we've had an Isle of Lewis chess set in the house. One thing that springs to mind is the foot print size of some of the pieces. From...

Re: Inlays - Merging Technologies

Being that you're working with ABS, have a look into "smoothing ABS with acetone vapor". Acetone mixed with chips of the parent plastic, ie yellow, blue, red etc, makes a nice glue that's the same colour as the parent plastic. You can also smooth/glue the ABS by brushing with an artists paint brush...
